Roland Micro Cube Guitar Amplifier- Black Review

Roland Micro Cube Guitar Amplifier- Black
Average Reviews:

I've had the Cube for 2 and a half months now. It offers a wide range of effects, sufficient amplification for home practice, and...a wide of effects. The effects are really what this product is all about. What it lacks in power, it punches you in the face with various sound distortions. Acoustic, Heavy Metal, all these sounds are packed into this Cube.

Best of all, it's small and portable! Like the vast majority, I am constrained by budget (who isn't! :P). While no professional guitarist needs this, I consider it a good buy for most of us part-timers.

Jim Dunlop M169 Mxr Carbon Copy Analog Delay Review

Jim Dunlop M169 Mxr Carbon Copy Analog Delay
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had the privilege of using an original Echoplex delay box that was lent to me years ago. After returning the Echoplex, I've relied on an inexpensive digital delay pedal that recently began to bomb out on me.After reading a lot of info and positive reviews on the MXR Carbon Copy Delay pedal, I decided to take the plunge and purchase it online at Amazon.I must say that I was pleasantly surprised.

The pedal is nice and compact...no bigger than a phase 90.Sound-wise it's not quite an echoplex...but does have warm tonal characteristics that remind me of the old school delay sounds. The modulation button is a nice touch and does sound similar to the tape warble heard on the echoplex. It basically varies the speed of the echo...creating a chorus effect when heard along with your original signal. This is a very subtle chorus sound...but that's how I remember (and like) it.The pedal will also self oscillate when the repeats are pushed to the max for some crazy sounds...just take care not to blow up your speakers.I did notice some very minor noise on the longer echos when playing clean bright tones, however, I've read that this is not an uncommon thing with analog pedals.

My only gripe with pedals like these are the internal controls.Personally, I think the whole trimpot concept is barbaric anymore. It just doesn't make sense to make the user disassemble an entire pedal to access additional controls.I doubt it would take much for Dunlop to drill an additional 2 holes into the housing to accommodate these features. Also, take care when disassembling these things. The jack threads are made of plastic...which can cross thread very easy if the metal nut fastener is tightened too much or incorrectly.

Overall a really nice pedal.I was initially concerned that the 600ms delay wouldn't be long enough...but as it turns out...it's actually a little more than I need.Sounds cool, looks cool, and not too pricey.I think most musicians will find this a valuable addition to their setup.

Product Description:
The MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay Pedal features a completely analog audio path for the ultimate in rich, warm delay--made possible only by old-school bucket brigade technology. This design boasts an amazing 600ms of delay time with optional modulation via a top-mounted switch and a simple, three-knob layout that controls Delay time, Mix (dry/wet blend), and Regen (delay repeats)--all in a pedal no bigger than a Phase 90. In addition, the M169 pedal has two internal trim pots that offer user-adjustable width and rate control of the modulation for even more tonal options. The Carbon Copy effect pedal will take you from crisp "bathroom" slap echoes to epic, Gilmour-esque delays with a twist of a knob. True hardwire bypass, single 9-volt operation, and stage-ready blue LEDs round out the package.

Electro-Harmonix Worm XO Analog Wah Phaser Vibrato Tremolo Review

Electro-Harmonix Worm XO Analog Wah Phaser Vibrato Tremolo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, the sounds that come from this pedal are really good....5 stars for the sound quality and build quality. It is built like a tank.

Minus 1/2 star for the very loud switch....when you press the button it makes a very loud click sound which can be annoying in quiet settings. I have read that you can replace the switch with a quieter one, but why doesn't it just come with a quieter one to begin with? Or how about offering an option of a "quiet switch" for those who play in smaller venues/quieter environments?

Minus 1/2 star for requiring a separate power adapter. If you use a pedal board it can be a hassle to have many different power adapters with wires and such coming out of the board.....this one requires its own power and can't be powered by the standard multi-adapters used with pedal boards.

Overall I would recommend this pedal - it sounds great, is built great, and provides a wide variety of sound processing all in one pedal....very nice.

Line 6 Spider III 15-Watt Guitar Combo Amplifier Review

Line 6 Spider III 15-Watt Guitar Combo Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A few days ago I borrowed a Spider II 15 from a friend, I was impressed with it , and since I had to borrow an amp you should get the idea that I needed a new small practice amp... while many adequate small amps (10-25 watts) exist they tend to be small sounding and shy on features, or the effects are substandard and don't sound like high quality stomp boxes at all .... The Spider II proved to be an exception to this notion, I knew within an hour that Line 6 would probably be the maker of whatever amp I ended up buying...This was my first hands on with a Line 6 product, by the way....

So I began to search for a baby spider of my own ... I found a great deal on a Spider III 15 at Guitar Center and rushed to town to snag me one of my own ... I bought the very last one at the store, they sell very quickly I was told by the salesman ... Lucky me !!

Cosmetically the spider III looks almost exactly like the II, the features are the same, but the III has been noticeably tweaked to the consumers benefit .. The effects sound a bit better and the mids are allot better, and they were already pretty darn great on the Spider II!

Its loud for a 15 watter ... sounds clean for a small amp even at rather high volume, very solidly built for any amp but extremely so for under 100 dollars, the effects sound right, like high quality stomp boxes rather than cheesy amp based effects .. like I found on my old Crate 15 watter, for instance, The custom made 8" speaker handles the sound very well this is simply a best of its class unit in every aspect of its being!

One complaint about the Spider III 15 is regarding what some folk consider misleading claims on the packaging description about the artist presets. True the settings are hard to find at the Line6 website but with a little searching there are a few pdf documents demonstrating a bunch of artist settings for a number of songs.... and the nobs are great fun to fiddle around with anyway, very responsive as well!

All in all I could not recommend this product highly enough, and I recommend this amp to anybody needing a high quality small amp at a very reasonable price ... Its the best of its kind I have ever used, and I have used, borrowed or owned a bunch of small amps over the last 30 or so years..

My next big amp will likely be a Line 6 product as well .. They really seem to have a knack for rethinking design and technology and use these innovations across the entirety of their product lines, plus on the low end they have a good sense of which bells and whistles to leave out and which to include for the highest quality sound, highest level of functionality and biggest bang for your buck!!

Samson G Track USB Microphone and Audio Interface Review

Samson G Track USB Microphone and Audio Interface
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This will be a nice semi-quick review with a little more technical perspective than a lot of the previous ones.I'm a big home recording nut, who's been on the road a lot the last year, mostly recording with my laptop, this mic, and a full version of Sonar.

First off, the audio quality:
Pretty decent. No noticeable glitches while using.Does sound a little tinny at times, but it's definitely on par with most of my other $100+ mikes (my most expensive one is a $200 Rode).Very usable for recording vocals (singing), but I haven't tried it with an acoustic guitar or other acoustic instruments.VERY-usable-plus for recording spoken words.Frequency range seems decent, but again, I haven't really ran the thing through a full range of applications.

Build quality:
Nice and solid.Almost too heavy though for easy lugging on small trips...but I keep it in the manufacturer's box and slide it in my suitcase, and so far it has made every trip just fine.

Ease of use:
Big plus here, despite a stable Windows OS possibly being as much responsible for the super simple use of the thing as the mic itself.Plug it in via USB, and you're ready to go.No special driver install or software required to get it working.

Extras:
-Line in and headphone out are constructed directly on the mic...this lets you use the mic as a line-in for recording an electronic keyboard or electric guitar directly into your recording software. And then you can use the microphone part of it to record vocals or any acoustic instruments.Nice double-feature to have in the same piece of hardware
-Comes with a very usable desk mic stand
-Comes with all the necessary cables to use right away
-Comes with some scaled-down Cakewalk recording software for your computer

I expected the sound quality would be usable and it is, but I admit the all-in-one extras and the acceptable price were what ultimately snagged me and prompted the one-click order.

Final thoughts:
If you're only doing podcasting (no music or instrument input required), you might consider a lower priced USB mic without the extras.BUT, if you're doing music with the thing, the line-in and line-out features and easy direct monitoring are way nice and worth the price.

Electro-Harmonix Cathedral Stereo Reverb Pedal Review

Electro-Harmonix Cathedral Stereo Reverb Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Tremendous reverb, lots of options and controls, actually will work as an echo unit. The Cathedral is not a simple, "set a couple of controls and go" deal, the more time you spend learning about how actual reverberatio works: pre-delay, how tone is affected in the reverberation field, etc. -- the better off you'll be, and the better you'll sound.
Has the ability to store and access pre-sets, which is truly useful (more than one would be nice, but then it would be a much more complex pedal) but probably the coolest thing for me is the "infinite" feature. I'm in a three-piece band, and when I start a song, I can set a nice lush reverb, play a chord or get some note(s) feeding back, then hold the infinite button down, and play over the "wash". It's quite an awesome sound; the wash just continues on and on and the un-reverberated guitar plays over it. Sweet. Goes back to normal reverb operation when you take your foot off the button.
I'd buy it again, but I need some time to work on it and "find" the pre-sets for different songs.Electro-Harmonix Cathedral Stereo Reverb Pedal

Lots of boutique pickups to choose in this realm. If you like Merle, Buck, Del and Pete Anderson sounds... you might consider nocasters. They are lower output, twangier and come from Fender. Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts Active Humbucker Guitar Pickup Set Review

Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts Active Humbucker Guitar Pickup Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I replaced the stock ESP LTD pickups in my LTD 251HM with Blackouts and they have turned a practice guitar into a scream machine. They have great dynamics and good balance with added lower mids which make my 5150 seem a great deal thicker.I would give them 5 stars but the electronics are completely disassembled.EMGs have some of the wiring done when you get them so they will take longer to install. The posts on the pots were wider than stock so I had to drill out the holes to make them fit. These can supposedly be swapped out with EMGs which I'm considering because they are superior to your standard EMG 81 85 set in tone. We'll see how the newer SD metal and EMG X series pups compare. It looks like there are a ton of new choices for actives and the quality of these pups I think re-energized the industry.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts Active Humbucker Guitar Pickup Set

Product Description:
Seymour Duncan AHB1 Blackouts are the result of serious research. These 9-volt active humbuckers deliver a less compressed tone, with a more extended frequency response. In Duncan's efforts to solve the issues involved in achieving that goal, they discovered that some of the most popular active pickups have what they consider a design flaw in their circuit architecture. They use unbalanced inputs in a differential preamp. The problem is, an unbalanced differential preamp is not very effective at cancelling hum. Seymour Duncan engineers figured out how to capture the tone that players want in an active design, but using balanced inputs. The result is that not only do these Seymour Duncan Blackouts active humbuckers have less hum than the competition, but they also have more lows, more highs, and more output. Simply put, the Blackouts have more tone than other active pickups. Players will notice the benefits of the reduced hum when they record, especially if they're around computer monitors or fluorescent lighting. As for the benefits of having more tone, well those will be apparent everywhere.Blackouts are available in individual neck and bridge models, or as a two-pickup set. All versions come with all necessary mounting hardware, including pots, jack, and a battery clip.

First Act ME445 Designer Double Cutaway Electric Guitar Review

First Act ME445 Designer Double Cutaway Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

About a year and a half ago, I bought the First Act ME501 for a whopping $59, and loved it.I loved it so much, I took it on stage with me, and it eventually became my first choice over my $600 American Standard Telecaster. It was reliable, and sounded great through my Tech 21 amp.

A few weeks ago, trolling the Ebay site, I spotted the ME445 going for less than $50 - I bought it...once again rationalizing the purchase due to its low price. When it arrived, once again, I was pleased with the craftsmanship of the instrument.I plugged it into the Tech 21, and was quite satisfied with the tone.Whereas the ME501 has a more crunchy, garage band tone, the ME445 has a much creamier and bluesy tone to it.It also seems a little lighter than my ME501, however, it's got terrific sustain.Just like my 501, it stays in tune like a champ.

I still see where people are relegating First Acts to the bottom of the musical instrument spectrum, which is too bad.I've gone broke buying Gibsons and Fenders over the years - First Act builds terrific instruments that stand up just fine with the pricier status symbol guitars.

The ME445 is a terrific guitar bargain for those just learning. In my case, a veteran guitar player of over 20 years, I'm comfortable bringing this axe on stage with me - it looks cool and sounds great...I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again...

I bought this amp on clearance at Guitar Center for $80. (usd). When I got it home and plugged it in, I was less than impressed. The tone was flat and when cranked the distortion was harsh and non musical. The next day, I replaced the (worthless) Sovtek 12ax7 preamp tube and el84 power tube with an Electro Harmonix 12ax7 ($12.) and JJ el84 ($21.).....instant difference....the tone was warmer and after a few hours of playing the cheap plastic coated speaker (almost) sounded ok..still not satisfied I looked at replacement speakers...I found an AMAZING sounding speaker from warehouse guitar speakers, a "Veteran 10" 10 inch, seamed paper cone speaker...some think it to be tonally superior to the Vintage 30....HOLY SMOKES!!! It is like a new amp...serious tone! I can not stop playing through it....all said, $80, plus $33 in tubes and $41. for the speaker (yes, only 41.) at roughly $150...this amp went from a dud to an amazing little tone monster....I am completely satisfied! The Dean X Series
The Dean X Series offers ML, V and Z style guitars at a price that won't break the bank. These guitars feature maple necks, rosewood fretboards, dual humbuckers, and plenty of Dean mojo, and are built to rock--perfect for beginners and veterans alike.Basswood Body
The VX features a lightweight basswood body. Basswood is great for heavier rock and metal styles, delivering a nice even tone that feeds a dirt pedal (or a dimed Marshall) nicely.Bolt-On Construction
Bolt-on neck construction provides an affordable alternative to set-neck or thru-body designs. The advantage of this design is that if you do have any neck trouble down the line, you can easily replace it. The VX's maple neck features an ultra-playable 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, with classic dot inlays.Dean Humbucker Pickups
To capture the biting tones of vintage Deans, the company includes two of its standard humbuckers, in black-and-white "zebra" style for looks as good as the sounds. And what to expect tonally? These pickups should provide more than enough bite for modern styles, along with plenty of low-end and midrange definition. The standard three-way selector allows bridge, neck, or a combination. Each pickup gets a volume pot, and they share the tone control.Grover Tuners
If you play guitar then you know what this means--solid, dependable tuning from the industry standard. These guitar machines are a triumph in engineering and style, with a gear ratio of 14:1, perfect gear meshing, and zero backlash and slippage. The gear box has a special lubricant for lifetime, trouble-free service.
Tune-o-Matic Bridge
The Tune-o-Matic bridge with string-thru body design provides serious sustain, along with precise intonation for your tuning preference. The classic v-shaped plate mirrors the headstock wings for some nice vintage Dean style.

I literally just took this pedal out of the box an hour and a half ago and it has already blown me away. I've only begun to scratch the surface of what this pedal can do, and i've made funky/weird loops of sound, bizarre cricket noises, long delays that instead of fading out actually get LOUDER with time. I dont know how else to say it, If you are looking for a delay pedal, you just found it. This thing can do anything.

It feels like the iPhone of delay pedals to me so far... like it can do all this crazy cool stuff... but oh yeah, it can also just do an echo too. (Wait, you can call people with an iPhone?)

I could have waited a week or so to really learn everything this pedal can do and write a detailed review of it's performance, but i dont feel i have to. It's the latest BOSS delay pedal... what else is there to say?

Also with the price range of 130-160 dollars its a huge bargin compared to other BOSS pedals that might pull off a similar effect such as the RC-2($180-200), or RC-20XL($240-300). Granted i know very little about the FULL capabilities of those pedals, but the DD-7 has up to 40 seconds worth of loop play in "Hold" mode. And the hold mode is so much more sophisticated that what I am familiar with... since previous to this pedal i have only tampered with the DD-3.

Sorry if I'm rambling, but seriously I'm in love with this pedal. Perhaps i will post a video demo of some of the weird junk you can do with it at some point.

Behringer V-Amp Pro Guitar Amp Modeling and Multi-Effects Processor Review

Behringer V-Amp Pro Guitar Amp Modeling and Multi-Effects Processor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With the V-amp line, Behringer guns for Line 6 modeling products market share in a big way. If more people find out what fun little boxes the V-amp and V-amp Pro are, they might become a serious threat.

The V-amp Pro is not quite as feature-packed as the Pod rackmount unit, but it's flexible enough and budget-priced.

To sum it up, the V-amp Pro is a modeling guitar pre-amp featuring 32 amplifier models, 16 cabinet models and 16 digital effects algorithms. It works in one of two "studio" modes or one of three "live" modes.

The interface is not particularly friendly, nor is it that terribly frustrating. The readout is a simple LED unit, and, as with many Behringer products, many functions are tucked behind a modifier button. Here it's "Tap/2nd Param". You also have to push the two bank select buttons simultaneously to access Edit mode. The knobs are "endless", that is, they can be spun limitlessly in either direction, but the settings can't be incremented/decremented past their highest/lowest settings, but their current levels can be stored in presets.

The amp models range in style from Fender-type clean/semi-dirty to face-melting high-gain. I consider the models reasonably faithful to their targets, but it's better to just think of the offerings as different types of tones, rather than expecting to get the equivalent of an Engl Savage for under two c-notes. The cabinet emulations offer a new set of tonal possibilities in conjunction with the amp models, and very noticeably affect the character of the sound you're sculpting. Pluses include the option to access a Presence control by pressing Tap/2nd param and turning the Treble knob. In Edit mode you also get a "drive" option which acts rather like a boost pedal (pre-gain).

The effects are not arbitrarily selectable nor are they infinitely tweakable, but you can get some useful sounds out of the sixteen algorithms (by algorithm I mean an effect or combination of two effects, such as Chorus+Compression, that you can choose, all others then being unavailable on that particular preset). I used the American Blues amp model and "Chorus+Delay1" to get a pretty dang lush clean tone. Of note here are the TWO effects loops: one pre-effects, one post-effects. You could, for example, run your dry pre-amp tone to a noise gate and EQ unit to get a basic tone, then run your sound-with-effects to additional effects units or something like a BBE Sonic Maximizer to add punch to your final output. There's even an option to bypass the pre-amp and use the V-amp Pro as simply an effects processor. Output options are generous and include stereo, unbalanced TRS (1/4 inch) outs and stereo, balanced (XLR) outs with ground lift switch. You also get a single stereo 1/4" AUX IN jack, two speaker outputs (120 watts mono @ 4 ohms or 2x60 watts stereo at 8 ohms), and ... S/PDIF and AES/EBU(digital) outputs (!). Wait, did you need a wordclock input? Got one FO ya, booyah. Oh yeah, and MIDI In and Out/Thru jacks (check out the Behringer FCB1010 Midi Foot Controller Board for a MIDI controller pretty much tailor-made for this gizmo).

Naturally, there's a headphone jack for private listening. And grouchy neighbors, hehe.

Get this, and a cheap, solid-state 15-watt practice amp with a CD Input jack to use a monitor/speaker, and jam on. It's a whole lotta fun for not a whole lotta bucks, and I'll bet one or two of those bucks that you'll a find a sound or two that you like.

Product Description:
If a lack of money and floor space is all that's been standing between you and a collection of vintage guitar amps and effects pedals, get ready to love the rack-mountable V-AMP PRO. It comes loaded with 32 amp models, 15 speaker cabinet models and 16 classic effects.

Any Classic You Like
The V-AMP PRO's 32 amp models are organized into four groups: CLEAN, BLUES, METAL and ROCK. Just twist the dedicated dial to plug into unbelievably authentic simulations of the greatest British and American tube amps from the 1950s to today. You even get models of uncommon--yet renowned--boutique tube amps! When you select an amp model, a speaker cabinet model is automatically selected. But if you'd prefer a different model, just go to EDIT>CABINETS, then use the BANK UP/DOWN buttons to navigate through all 15 options.
Just like on an actual guitar amp, you've got a three-band EQ, GAIN, REVERB, VOLUME and MASTER VOLUME dials. By holding the TAP button, the TREBLE dial becomes a PRESENCE control. This enables the adjustment of a high-frequency filter that can add or remove a "shimmer" from the V-AMP PRO's tone.
Authentic simulations of the greatest British and American tube amps from the 1950s to today.
Stereo multi-effects including chorus, flanging, phasing, rotary, auto-wah, echo, delay, compressor and various effects combinations.

Top Tone--In Full Effect
The V-AMP PRO gives you flanger, chorus, compression, delay and 12 other beautiful digital effects to apply to your sound. Adjust the effect's level in the mix via the EFFECTS dial. To adjust effect parameters, you can rhythmically press the TAP button to alter delay times or LFO speeds, or hold down the TAP button and twist the EFFECTS knob to access e.g. feedback or depth. By using a MIDI pedal, such as the BEHRINGER FCB1010, you can access an additional Wah Wah effect. You can adjust the filter characteristic by entering EDIT mode, selecting the DRIVE menu and turning the EFFECTS knob while holding the TAP button.
Presenting the Presets
All of these elements have been combined into 125 different presets divided into 25 banks, accessible through the BANK UP/ BANK DOWN buttons. Within each bank, you can press buttons A through E to explore its different presets. You can also create and save your own presets. Start by selecting a preset, then making any changes you wish: amp, EQ, effect, etc. The preset LED will begin to flash, indicating that the V-AMP PRO is ready to save your settings. To do this, hold the preset button down for about two seconds. Once the LED stops flashing, you have saved the modified preset. On top of all this, the V-AMP PRO also features a built-in tuner and noise gate. In essence, it's a Swiss Army Knife for the home recording enthusiast or gigging guitarist who can't seem to settle on one amp.
Stunning in the Studio
The V-AMP PRO features several configurations that make it an invaluable asset in the studio. Access the configuration menu by pressing the B and D buttons at the same time. Then use BANK UP and BANK DOWN to select a configuration.
When using headphones, the V-AMP PRO will switch into Studio Mode 1 (S1). This stereo mode works well for both monitoring and recording with effects, amp and speaker modeling. It doesn't apply the additional three-band EQ to the signal, but most recording programs--like energyXT2.5-- have their own EQ. In Studio Mode 2 (S2), the V-AMP PRO sends a signal with amp and speaker simulation, but only the right output has effects. You can either record both left and right outputs to separate tracks, or record the "dry" left output while monitoring the right output.
The V-AMP PRO features myriad routing options. It has a balanced XLR DI out with ground lift and switchable ULTRA-G cabinet simulation, post-DSP stereo inserts for connection o external effects, BNC wordclock input for externals sample rate synchronization up to 96 kHz. There are also AES/EBU and S/PDIF connectors so you can use the V-AMP PRO as an all-purpose audio-to-digital converter with 24-bit/96 kHz digital output.
Stellar on Stage
The V-AMP PRO has three live configurations. When performing live with this device, you can either run it to an amp on stage, run directly to the mixing board, or both. Live Mode 1 is the best choice for running the outputs directly to the mixer, because it applies amp and speaker simulation, effects and an additional 3-band EQ.
Use Live Mode 2 to run the V-AMP PRO into the effects return inputs of 2 different guitar amps. This configuration does not feature speaker simulation, allowing the amplifier's natural speaker sound to go unaltered. In this scenario, the amps would be mic'd on stage to get the sound to the house speakers, and having a dedicated monitor would be less important. In Live Mode 3, you can send the left output to an amp's eff ects return for onstage volume, while the right output sends signal to the main mixer for inclusion in the main house mix. Also note that you can press the TAP key while turning the GAIN knob to adjust the input sensitivity to match the output of your guitar's pickups. If the CLIP LED lights, the input's sensitivity should be reduced.
Veni, MIDI, Vici
The V-AMP PRO comes fully equipped to fit right into a MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) setup. It can be controlled in real time from a computer, or via a MIDI foot controller during a live performance. Its MIDI connectors are international-standard 5-pin DIN connectors. You will need dedicated MIDI cables (not included).
The MIDI IN jack receives MIDI controller data. It can be adjusted in EDIT mode by pressing the A button and then using the arrow keys. MIDI OUT/THRU sends data to a computer. You can transmit both preset data and parameter changes. Some people even use the V-AMP as a remote control for parameters of their DAW or VST instruments, which is more handy than using the mouse alone. If set to MIDI THRU, the V-AMP 2 does not send its own MIDI information, but passes on the signal received at the MIDI IN connector.
