LR Baggs M1 Soundhole Magnetic Acoustic Guitar Pickup Review

I put this pickup in my workhorse guitar - a Sigma Martin from the 70's. That's sort of like putting a V8 engine into an old VW bug. I plugged it into my Fishman Loudbox acoustic amp and it sounds amazing. I was concerned about it being a passive pickup but it's powerful, clear, and makes my guitar sound better than it actually is.

Product Description:
The LR Baggs M1 acoustic guitar pickup is the world's first body-sensitive soundhole magnetic pickup, eliminating the trade-off between convenience and performance. From your first strum you'll know that the M1 is pure magic. What makes it so different? The secret is the breakthrough patent-pending TriAxial Dynamic Technology developed by Gary Garrett and Lloyd Baggs. This new technology allows the pickup to respond to the guitar's string and body vibrations. It's never been easier to get superior live sound!LR Baggs M1 FeaturesCompletely passive operation: no batteries to worry aboutQuiet, hum-free operation under the most challenging live conditionsHighly feedback resistantAdjustable pole pieces with smooth threadless tops preserve fingerstylists' nailsBuilt-in gold-plated 1/8 inch jack makes moving or removing the pickup a snapIncludes a prewired strapjack harness and a 12 foot Mogami audiophile-grade cableLR Baggs M1 - ExposedThe M1 is a humbucking pickup - with a twist. In a common stacked humbucker, the second, lower coil cancels hum, but doesn't contribute anything positive to the sound. In fact, it can muddy the sound of the main coil. We unlock the second coil. This allows it to make a positive sonic contribution while maintaining the pure open sound of a single coil - but without the hum.LR Baggs Triaxial Dynamic Technology ExposedIn the M1, the hum-canceling coil is suspended under the main coil by a tuned support that allows it to move in three dimensions. The primary coil moves with the guitar top and creates a body signal in the suspended secondary coil. This brings the LR Baggs M1 to life, with string and body sound all in one. It's like having a dual pickup system in your soundhole. And it's all passive!LR Baggs has carefully tuned the support to control motion in all three dimensions. This allowed th

Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Guitar Humbucker Pickup Set (with SH2 Jazz and SH4 JB Guitar Pickups) Review

Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Guitar Humbucker Pickup Set

I have a late 90's Carvin SC90 W/ humbuckers & 2 coil splitting switches. It's a beautifully made guitar. Solid mahogany body w/ flame maple top. I hated the way it sounded. The pick ups(pups) are C-22's which are Carvin OEM. I decided to give the guitar one more chance before I got rid of it. I was going to install a Seymour Duncan JB & a '59 like I did with my Les Paul. As I was browsing on AmazonI found the Hot Rod Special (Seymour Duncan JB & Jazz). I went to the Seymour Duncan web site & listened to what the Jazz sounded like. Sounded good to me, so I placed the order with Amazon.

I received the pups in 3 days. I had never rewired a guitar before, but got through it with no problems. The guitar is now a screamer. It sounds a lot like my Les Paul only a little hotter. The split coil settings give it a Tele type sound. With the Jazz in the neck position I get a very cool single coil sound that is great for chords & a crunch type setting on my amp (Rivera).

I don't think I could have made a better choice. Remember, there is only one thing that translates what you play & that the pups. If they suck so does your sound.

Product Description:
The Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Guitar Pickup Set matches an SH-2n Jazz Model for the neck position with and an SH-4 JB Model for the bridge position. This is Seymour's favorite humbucker set and is widely used for everything from aggressive blues-rock to metal. Duncan believes that their new Matched Sets will take the guesswork out of matching complete retrofit sets of guitar pickups. All of the pickups in the matched sets are hand built in Duncan's Santa Barbara, California workshop and include all necessary mounting hardware and wiring instructions.Ever wonder what holds you back from buying new electric guitar pickups? Seymour Duncan did. So they undertook detailed market research to determine the biggest factor as to why guitar players don't make the purchase decision. It turns out that Duncan's huge array of pickups (108 different series, at last count) was working for them and against them at the same time. The biggest reason for reluctant guitarists:too many pickups from which to choose.Recently, Seymour Duncan released their most popular pickup models in pre-matched sets, to take the guesswork out of determining which pickups work well together. The initial release of matched sets includes pickups targeted to a specific type of player and their musical taste.Seymour Duncan SH-2 Jazz Model Features and SpecificationsApplicationClassic moderate output humbucker. Especially popular in neck position. Don't let the name fool you; it's not only great for jazz, but also country, blues, funk, classic rock and heavy rock.DescriptionProvides an articulate and clear tone. Great for fast runs. The brighter tone has slightly less output and is a good match with most bridge pickups. When distorted, the tone is full and bright. Smooth sustain. Compared to the SH-1 '59 Model, the Jazz has slightly less output and a more detailed treble response. Comes with four-conductor hookup cable.
