Coffin Case BDFX-1 Blood Drive Overdrive Guitar Effect Pedal Review

You're thinking you're going to get the same tone of as John 5.

Because I naively (another word for ignorant or stupidly) bought it because I thought was going to get JOhn 5's guitar tone from that one youtube video I saw advertising this particular pedal.

If you're looking for a pedal that raises the volume and overall bright tone I say give it a shot and see how you like it.

If you're looking for heavy crunchy distortion...than THIS IS NOT THE PEDAL FOR THAT.

The distortion on this pedal is ridiculously bleak...and absent.

It does give you that much range on distortion either.

but it does give you an acceptable range for making those solos stand out.

So like I said... i'd give it a try and see how you like it...and maybe even write a review too...to save other people time like I just did for you.

Electro-Harmonix Holy Stain Multi-Effects Pedal Review

Electro-Harmonix Holy Stain Multi-Effects Pedal

I've had this for about a year. Since then I've bought separate pedals to replace each of it's functionalities. With this pedal you can only do Tremolo, Reverb, or Pitch Shift seperately, you can't stack them like a modern multi-effects (which is what EHX bills this as). There's no way to completely bypass the distorion+tone circuit and use say, the tremolo or reverb without having the tone shaped by the distortion. This pedal would almost be useful if it had a good distortion circuit. It IS an ANALOG distortion circuit, but without a gain control (yes, really, double check this before you buy it, since you have to use the distortion circuit to use the reverb/tremolo/pitch shift functionality, there is NO GAIN KNOB). You are stuck with the awful death metal "Dirt"and crunchy sounding "Drive". There is a mix knob, but the wet signal you're mixing into say, the reverb, has already been contaminated by the drive circuit's tone knob. The tone knob has a "clean" setting, but it's almost impossible to tune out.

That said, it has two really fantastic reverb settings, Hall and Room, which are fully adjustable. This is a pretty versatile reverb pedal, and if I'm not mistaken, the cheapest reverb EHX sells (as of this writing), if you can look past the distortion circuit's shortcomings. EHX makes great reverb pedals.

If you're just looking for a multi effects pedal, look elsewhere, you can buy this same functionality by buying economy pedals that do these functions separately for about the same price. This pedal does not get a lot of use from me.

Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal Review

Love this box.Have/had MXR distort, digi Metal, ibanez Tubescreamer, Line 6 POD and to me the sound from OCD is better for many rock apps. The sound benefit is as hard to describe (but easy to love) - like a tube amp versus solid state - when you hear it - you know you need it - but its hard to explain in words whats distinct.I had huge doubts when my local guitar guy suggested it but one listen (and now owning it) I go past all the other named boxes and use this bad boy for a great variety of classic/heavy rock sounds.I use gibson LP, ESP kh2, ibanez JS, 70's Fender Strat and mesa 525 express with this/other boxes FYI.

Product Description:
The Fulltone OCD-Obsessive Compulsive Drive&mdashoverdrive pedal packs classic OD tones into a compact pedal with simple, no-fuss operation. From heavy crunch rich with overtones and feedback to spanky cleans, the OCD delivers the sounds of a great tube amp, as sell as the same sensitivity and response to your playing style. Along with standard Volume, Drive, and Tone controls, the OCD's HP/LP (High Peak/Low Peak) switch takes the pedal from a clean boost to manic, sustain-laden distortion. True bypass switching. The Fulltone Story Fulltone was founded in 1991 by Michael Fuller, a session guitarist, composer, performer, electronic tinkerer featured in Guitar Player magazine, and first place winner in their "Ultimate Guitarist Competition" Blues category. Fulltone pedals were born out of a love for music, tone, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, etc. Early on Fuller developed a love for fine vintage pedals, and his frustration at the inconsistencies and the often fragile nature of old gear drove him to start Fulltone. Rich, Fat-sounding TONE TOOLS with a reliable build quality is the goal. Fulltone effects carry a 5 year warranty and are built for (and by) musicians. Fulltone use True Bypass switching (with L.E.D. status indicators) in all our pedals, whenever possible. Most other pedals have a buffered output that destroys the performance of most pedals that follow in the signal-chain. Fuller says don't be fooled by the claims of "Pure Bypass," "Hard Bypass"...etc. These are just catch phrases to divert your attention away from the fact that those pedals are not true-bypass. I designed and manufacture the Fulltone 3PDT , the world's only Super-Duty Triple-Pole Double-Throw footswitch Fullertone manufactures their own custom potentiometers because what has been offered as "Industry Standard" has a 20% failure rate within 2 years is not acceptable to them. All Fulltone pedals are handbuilt & tested at their shop in Southern California using full-sized top-notch compone

Fulltone Fulldrive2 MOSFET Overdrive/Clean Boost Guitar Effects Pedal Blue Review

Great pedal. Great. However...
It was breaking down, so I got in touch with their repair dept. They said simply, Send it in and we'll fix it. Next message from them was an invoice for $60. About one-third the cost of a new unit to repair the two switches and LEDs. I paid, no questions. After making the full payment, I emailed them to comment/complain. Here is Mike Fuller's personal response:

You are a spoiled idiot.
Go away.

Housed in a beautiful powder-coated blue 16-gauge steel enclosure, the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 effects pedal is capable of clean boost or non-compressed overdrive via its first Overdrive Mode channel. Choose light to medium softer overdrives all while retaining your guitar's original tone. The pedal's Tone knob is a very effective Presence control that can smooth out or add upper harmonics. There's also a footswitchable second-channel Boost Mode with its own separate distortion control for medium to higher gains with a more singing violin-like sustain.

Electro-Harmonix Freeze Sound Retainer Compression Guitar Effects Pedal Review

The electronics is awesome. It takes a little practice timing-wise to use it like a sustain pedal for the guitar. But it works. And it's awesome. The reason why I'm not giving it a 5-star rating is because it uses the worst switch you can image. Why would they use a switch that is so small and so loud?I could hear the switch clicks from across the room. Why does it have to make any sound at all?

Here's what I did with mine (although it probably voided the warranty):Drill a 3/8" hole on the side of the case opposite the power supply.Install a 1/4" mono jack and wire the two contacts to the original switch (no need to disconnect the original switch). If the red light flickers on and off when you plug in the power it means the wiring is backwards or the positive signal is touching the case.Fix the wiring and close up the case. And then I just plug in a nice piano-like sustain pedal.Make sure you get a pedal with the contacts normally open (N.O.).To be safe, get one with a polarity switch. The M-Audio SP2 is a good pedal for this purpose.

The Freeze pedal as-is gets a 4-star rating. With the modifications above it gets a 5-plus-star rating.

The piano has had a sustain pedal since they started making pianos.I can't believe it took until now for the guitar to have one too.
