(More customer reviews)If you're anything other than the very occasional musician, you'd be better off buying the version of this product with the hard case.I'm gigging 3-4 times a month and find that the soft case allows pedals to shift so much during transit that they come loose from the board.The padded flight case would hold pedals down more securely.

But there's more to the problem. First, the Velcro isn't anywhere near strong enough to hold down heavier pedals (e.g. a Digitech Whammy, even a Cry-Baby), which come loose even when picking the board up to put it in its case. I've ended up using cable ties wrapped around the crossbars to augment the Velcro.Second, the glue on the back of the supplied Velcro isn't strong enough to stay attached to many pedals.I've ended up using Gorilla glue to get the stuff to stick.

I'm not sure there is any solution to these problems, since any pedal-board would have the same issues.

Having said that, it's a good solid pedal-board, probably the best available.

Boss DD-20 Giga Delay Guitar Pedal Review

(More customer reviews)The Boss DD-20 Giga Delay pedal may not be the last delay pedal you ever need but it may come close. This is another in the "twin pedal" design in the Roland line.

The layout looks imposing but is very simple and intuitive. You have your basic controls for feedback, delay time, effect level, delay mode, and tone. Setting the delay time can be adjusted manually via the black knob by either turning it to fine tune or pressing it for quicker advancement through the delay times.

The I/O of the device has an input for a control pedal, and headphone out , 2 inputs for stereo operation, by plugging in the "left" in and out will give you mono.

It would be really to your advantage to read the manual because you can assign the pedals to do different things, adjust how many "heads" to use for the tape delay (based on the Space Echo), how to adjust for -20db to +4db output, and other neat tricks.. There is also a way to reset the factory presets.

With 11 different delay types including "Sound On Sound", Reverse, Tape, Analog, Dual (long delay and slap at the same time), Pan, Smooth (has a reverb quality with the delay), modulation. The two "new" settings are "Twist" and "Warp."

The "Twist" mode is activated by the left pedal and causes the delay signal to speed up and oscillate.

The "Warp" mode holds the delay until you hit the pedal again.

This unit has 23 seconds of delay time and with the "SOS' function you can use this as a looper.

You can adjust your delay via either the right pedal or the button under the display. You can also adjust tempo as well.

You can store up to 4 settings in the memory.

This device is not "true-bypass" but the buffers in most Boss pedals are good in not affecting your tone. So if you have a bunch of pedals with "true-bypass" this should not be a problem. The other thing to note is the device is in an "always on" state and takes up a lot of real estate on the pedal board.

Granted the Giga Delay may have many bells and whistles that you may never use so give some thought on how you are going utilize this device. I bought it based on being able to store presets and having a "reverse" function. If you looking for a simpler delay pedal then look at the MXR Carbon Copy (which I also own). That is a versatile pedal in a small footprint.

Dunlop 535Q Multi-Wah Crybaby Pedal Review

It's built like a tank and has worked flawlessly in the time I've had it. Since I normally power it with a wall wart, I don't have much of an opinion about battery life.

Bottom Line: It costs a bit more than the standard Dunlop wah pedals, it's worth it.

Wah Range Selector
The Wah Range Selector knob is located on the side of the 535Q pedal. It allows you to select a tonal range that is best suited for your expression needs. Turn the knob clockwise for the lower register ranges and counter-clockwise for the higher ranges.
Volume Control
By turning the Volume Control knob located on the left side of the pedal, you control the amount of gain. Turning the knob clockwise will increase your gain to up to 16dB. Turning the knob counter-clockwise will decrease your gain to 0dB, or normal throughput.
Variable Q
The "Q" adjustment is also located on the left side of the pedal; you can control the sharpness of the bandpass with this adjustment. High Q is a very selective bandpass filter, low Q is a very broad bandpass filter approaching an almost volume-like control. The lower Q settings have more musical quality and don't effect tone as much as the high Q settings.

Jim Dunlop M169 Mxr Carbon Copy Analog Delay Review

(More customer reviews)I had the privilege of using an original Echoplex delay box that was lent to me years ago.After returning the Echoplex, I've relied on an inexpensive digital delay pedal that recently began to bomb out on me.After reading a lot of info and positive reviews on the MXR Carbon Copy Delay pedal, I decided to take the plunge and purchase it online at Amazon.I must say that I was pleasantly surprised.

The pedal is nice and compact...no bigger than a phase 90.Sound-wise it's not quite an echoplex...but does have warm tonal characteristics that remind me of the old school delay sounds.The modulation button is a nice touch and does sound similar to the tape warble heard on the echoplex.It basically varies the speed of the echo...creating a chorus effect when heard along with your original signal.This is a very subtle chorus sound...but that's how I remember (and like) it.The pedal will also self oscillate when the repeats are pushed to the max for some crazy sounds...just take care not to blow up your speakers.I did notice some very minor noise on the longer echos when playing clean bright tones, however, I've read that this is not an uncommon thing with analog pedals.

My only gripe with pedals like these are the internal controls.Personally, I think the whole trimpot concept is barbaric anymore.It just doesn't make sense to make the user disassemble an entire pedal to access additional controls.I doubt it would take much for Dunlop to drill an additional 2 holes into the housing to accommodate these features.Also, take care when disassembling these things.The jack threads are made of plastic...which can cross thread very easy if the metal nut fastener is tightened too much or incorrectly.

Overall a really nice pedal.I was initially concerned that the 600ms delay wouldn't be long enough...but as it turns out...it's actually a little more than I need.Sounds cool, looks cool, and not too pricey.I think most musicians will find this a valuable addition to their setup.

Electro-Harmonix Cathedral Stereo Reverb Pedal Review

(More customer reviews)Tremendous reverb, lots of options and controls, actually will work as an echo unit. The Cathedral is not a simple, "set a couple of controls and go" deal, the more time you spend learning about how actual reverberatio works: pre-delay, how tone is affected in the reverberation field, etc. -- the better off you'll be, and the better you'll sound.
Has the ability to store and access pre-sets, which is truly useful (more than one would be nice, but then it would be a much more complex pedal) but probably the coolest thing for me is the "infinite" feature. I'm in a three-piece band, and when I start a song, I can set a nice lush reverb, play a chord or get some note(s) feeding back, then hold the infinite button down, and play over the "wash". It's quite an awesome sound; the wash just continues on and on and the un-reverberated guitar plays over it. Sweet. Goes back to normal reverb operation when you take your foot off the button.

Boss DD-7 Digital Delay Pedal Review

(More customer reviews)I literally just took this pedal out of the box an hour and a half ago and it has already blown me away. I've only begun to scratch the surface of what this pedal can do, and i've made funky/weird loops of sound, bizarre cricket noises, long delays that instead of fading out actually get LOUDER with time. I dont know how else to say it, If you are looking for a delay pedal, you just found it. This thing can do anything.

It feels like the iPhone of delay pedals to me so far... like it can do all this crazy cool stuff... but oh yeah, it can also just do an echo too. (Wait, you can call people with an iPhone?)

I could have waited a week or so to really learn everything this pedal can do and write a detailed review of it's performance, but i dont feel i have to. It's the latest BOSS delay pedal... what else is there to say?

Also with the price range of 130-160 dollars its a huge bargin compared to other BOSS pedals that might pull off a similar effect such as the RC-2($180-200), or RC-20XL($240-300). Granted i know very little about the FULL capabilities of those pedals, but the DD-7 has up to 40 seconds worth of loop play in "Hold" mode. And the hold mode is so much more sophisticated that what I am familiar with... since previous to this pedal i have only tampered with the DD-3.

Sorry if I'm rambling, but seriously I'm in love with this pedal. Perhaps i will post a video demo of some of the weird junk you can do with it at some point.

Behringer V-Amp Pro Guitar Amp Modeling and Multi-Effects Processor Review

(More customer reviews)With the V-amp line, Behringer guns for Line 6 modeling products market share in a big way. If more people find out what fun little boxes the V-amp and V-amp Pro are, they might become a serious threat.

The V-amp Pro is not quite as feature-packed as the Pod rackmount unit, but it's flexible enough and budget-priced.

To sum it up, the V-amp Pro is a modeling guitar pre-amp featuring 32 amplifier models, 16 cabinet models and 16 digital effects algorithms. It works in one of two "studio" modes or one of three "live" modes.

The interface is not particularly friendly, nor is it that terribly frustrating. The readout is a simple LED unit, and, as with many Behringer products, many functions are tucked behind a modifier button. Here it's "Tap/2nd Param". You also have to push the two bank select buttons simultaneously to access Edit mode. The knobs are "endless", that is, they can be spun limitlessly in either direction, but the settings can't be incremented/decremented past their highest/lowest settings, but their current levels can be stored in presets.

The amp models range in style from Fender-type clean/semi-dirty to face-melting high-gain. I consider the models reasonably faithful to their targets, but it's better to just think of the offerings as different types of tones, rather than expecting to get the equivalent of an Engl Savage for under two c-notes. The cabinet emulations offer a new set of tonal possibilities in conjunction with the amp models, and very noticeably affect the character of the sound you're sculpting. Pluses include the option to access a Presence control by pressing Tap/2nd param and turning the Treble knob. In Edit mode you also get a "drive" option which acts rather like a boost pedal (pre-gain).

The effects are not arbitrarily selectable nor are they infinitely tweakable, but you can get some useful sounds out of the sixteen algorithms (by algorithm I mean an effect or combination of two effects, such as Chorus+Compression, that you can choose, all others then being unavailable on that particular preset). I used the American Blues amp model and "Chorus+Delay1" to get a pretty dang lush clean tone. Of note here are the TWO effects loops: one pre-effects, one post-effects. You could, for example, run your dry pre-amp tone to a noise gate and EQ unit to get a basic tone, then run your sound-with-effects to additional effects units or something like a BBE Sonic Maximizer to add punch to your final output. There's even an option to bypass the pre-amp and use the V-amp Pro as simply an effects processor. Output options are generous and include stereo, unbalanced TRS (1/4 inch) outs and stereo, balanced (XLR) outs with ground lift switch. You also get a single stereo 1/4" AUX IN jack, two speaker outputs (120 watts mono @ 4 ohms or 2x60 watts stereo at 8 ohms), and ... S/PDIF and AES/EBU(digital) outputs (!). Wait, did you need a wordclock input? Got one FO ya, booyah. Oh yeah, and MIDI In and Out/Thru jacks (check out the Behringer FCB1010 Midi Foot Controller Board for a MIDI controller pretty much tailor-made for this gizmo).

Naturally, there's a headphone jack for private listening. And grouchy neighbors, hehe.

Get this, and a cheap, solid-state 15-watt practice amp with a CD Input jack to use a monitor/speaker, and jam on. It's a whole lotta fun for not a whole lotta bucks, and I'll bet one or two of those bucks that you'll a find a sound or two that you like.

Any Classic You Like
The V-AMP PRO's 32 amp models are organized into four groups: CLEAN, BLUES, METAL and ROCK. Just twist the dedicated dial to plug into unbelievably authentic simulations of the greatest British and American tube amps from the 1950s to today. You even get models of uncommon--yet renowned--boutique tube amps! When you select an amp model, a speaker cabinet model is automatically selected. But if you'd prefer a different model, just go to EDIT>CABINETS, then use the BANK UP/DOWN buttons to navigate through all 15 options.
Just like on an actual guitar amp, you've got a three-band EQ, GAIN, REVERB, VOLUME and MASTER VOLUME dials. By holding the TAP button, the TREBLE dial becomes a PRESENCE control. This enables the adjustment of a high-frequency filter that can add or remove a "shimmer" from the V-AMP PRO's tone.

Top Tone--In Full Effect
The V-AMP PRO gives you flanger, chorus, compression, delay and 12 other beautiful digital effects to apply to your sound. Adjust the effect's level in the mix via the EFFECTS dial. To adjust effect parameters, you can rhythmically press the TAP button to alter delay times or LFO speeds, or hold down the TAP button and twist the EFFECTS knob to access e.g. feedback or depth. By using a MIDI pedal, such as the BEHRINGER FCB1010, you can access an additional Wah Wah effect. You can adjust the filter characteristic by entering EDIT mode, selecting the DRIVE menu and turning the EFFECTS knob while holding the TAP button.
Presenting the Presets
All of these elements have been combined into 125 different presets divided into 25 banks, accessible through the BANK UP/ BANK DOWN buttons. Within each bank, you can press buttons A through E to explore its different presets. You can also create and save your own presets. Start by selecting a preset, then making any changes you wish: amp, EQ, effect, etc. The preset LED will begin to flash, indicating that the V-AMP PRO is ready to save your settings. To do this, hold the preset button down for about two seconds. Once the LED stops flashing, you have saved the modified preset. On top of all this, the V-AMP PRO also features a built-in tuner and noise gate. In essence, it's a Swiss Army Knife for the home recording enthusiast or gigging guitarist who can't seem to settle on one amp.
Stunning in the Studio
The V-AMP PRO features several configurations that make it an invaluable asset in the studio. Access the configuration menu by pressing the B and D buttons at the same time. Then use BANK UP and BANK DOWN to select a configuration.
When using headphones, the V-AMP PRO will switch into Studio Mode 1 (S1). This stereo mode works well for both monitoring and recording with effects, amp and speaker modeling. It doesn't apply the additional three-band EQ to the signal, but most recording programs--like energyXT2.5-- have their own EQ. In Studio Mode 2 (S2), the V-AMP PRO sends a signal with amp and speaker simulation, but only the right output has effects. You can either record both left and right outputs to separate tracks, or record the "dry" left output while monitoring the right output.
The V-AMP PRO features myriad routing options. It has a balanced XLR DI out with ground lift and switchable ULTRA-G cabinet simulation, post-DSP stereo inserts for connection o external effects, BNC wordclock input for externals sample rate synchronization up to 96 kHz. There are also AES/EBU and S/PDIF connectors so you can use the V-AMP PRO as an all-purpose audio-to-digital converter with 24-bit/96 kHz digital output.
Stellar on Stage
The V-AMP PRO has three live configurations. When performing live with this device, you can either run it to an amp on stage, run directly to the mixing board, or both. Live Mode 1 is the best choice for running the outputs directly to the mixer, because it applies amp and speaker simulation, effects and an additional 3-band EQ.
Use Live Mode 2 to run the V-AMP PRO into the effects return inputs of 2 different guitar amps. This configuration does not feature speaker simulation, allowing the amplifier's natural speaker sound to go unaltered. In this scenario, the amps would be mic'd on stage to get the sound to the house speakers, and having a dedicated monitor would be less important. In Live Mode 3, you can send the left output to an amp's eff ects return for onstage volume, while the right output sends signal to the main mixer for inclusion in the main house mix. Also note that you can press the TAP key while turning the GAIN knob to adjust the input sensitivity to match the output of your guitar's pickups. If the CLIP LED lights, the input's sensitivity should be reduced.
Veni, MIDI, Vici
The V-AMP PRO comes fully equipped to fit right into a MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) setup. It can be controlled in real time from a computer, or via a MIDI foot controller during a live performance. Its MIDI connectors are international-standard 5-pin DIN connectors. You will need dedicated MIDI cables (not included).
The MIDI IN jack receives MIDI controller data. It can be adjusted in EDIT mode by pressing the A button and then using the arrow keys. MIDI OUT/THRU sends data to a computer. You can transmit both preset data and parameter changes. Some people even use the V-AMP as a remote control for parameters of their DAW or VST instruments, which is more handy than using the mouse alone. If set to MIDI THRU, the V-AMP 2 does not send its own MIDI information, but passes on the signal received at the MIDI IN connector.

DigiTech RP350 Guitar Effects Processor Review

(More customer reviews)The amp simulators alone make the Digitech RP350 worth the price of admission. No piece of solid state equipment can capture all of the nuances of tube gear, but this thing comes reasonably close.

The main limitation I found is that you can run only ONE effect at a time from the Chorus/FX module (delay and reverb are in a separate module). So running chorus and flange together is impossible. Ditto with phaser and pitch shift. I would strongly recommend visiting the Digitech website and downloading the manual so that you know exactly what you are getting. The website also has clips of the presets, though actually playing one would of course be better.

My only other gripe is that the Marshall Plexi simulation could use a higher maximum gain level. You have to mate it with a distortion pedal simulation to get a decent among of distortion. I prefer my Tech 21 Sansamp GT2 for 70s hard rock sounds.

For the price, this was well worth it for me. I just hope Digitech makes future models with two FX modules instead of only one.

It actually modifies the sound of whatever you put through it about twice as much as advertised for some technical reason my son explained but I don't understand. It had something to do with the specs given being the average while one actually has a lot more room for experimentation.Anyway, he immediately starting something that sounded a bit Pink Floydish using this box with his electric guitar.Several days later he was playing something quite interesting and creative using this box, only he was playing his I-phone or something! Well, the point is that this is a lot of potential creative sound production for the price. Soooooo, if your considering this, I can tell you to just buy it, if you can find it, as it appears it is being discontinued, which has something to do with the great price. Simply a lot of fun and potential for the price from a company that makes good quality equipment.This is a great deal.

(More customer reviews)Recently upgraded to a tube amp that unfortunately has no effects.Since pedals are so expensive I decided to go with the DL 8 to start with.Not only is there a number of delay functions, there is a modulated delay that gives a nice chorus type of effect.There's also a slapback delay that gives a reverb type of effect and lastly there's a 20 second looper.Don't get me wrong, this isn't going to completely replace a chorus, reverb or looper but it's a great starter pedal that lets you create a variety of sounds until you can fill out your pedals.The looper is very basic.You can't save loops and once you start a loop you can't stop it and then start it again so this may not be the answer if you want to be a one man band.You can loop up to 20 seconds and then overdub over it which is a lot of fun.

The other main reason I chose the DL8 is that other reviewers stated there was no loss of tone using the pedal.I finally upgraded to a tube amp and dont want my pedals robbing the tone.I would agree that the signal stays pretty solid using this pedal and I didn't notice any loss of tone during use.One downer is thing eats batteries really quick.The first 9v lasted only a 2-3 hours of time.I'm going to invest in the power supply or some sort of powered pedal board.The pedal itself is heavy as a brick and seems built solid.I think it will last a long time but time will tell.Overall, a solid buy and I'm very happy

I spend hours on this thing and never tire of finding new ways to use it and new sounds for inspiration.It has a tuner, amp modeling, 100 user and 100 preset effects...and tons of great features I haven't even discovered yet.

I'd recommend this device for any guitarist...for practice or performance use.It's like a whole truck load of effects and amps/cabinets in a box the size of a pack of cigarettes.

(More customer reviews)Got this unit and compared side-by-side with Line 6's Floor POD Plus for use through the PA system at my church.I was woried that the Amp Modeling function would not be very good, but I was pleasantly wrong.The line-out function into the house PA provides excellent sound.The amp-modeling is transparent to the user, and you can focus on your effects while the ME-50 manages the amp modeling to automatically give a good sound.

The metal housing and heavy duty knobs were also far superior to the Line 6 Unit.In fairness, this unit costs more than the Line 6.

Only downside is that you cannot switch thru the 10 saved sound banks with your foot, so you can only have 3 pedal settings plus whatever has been manually set for 4 settings during a song.Conversely the Line 6 provides extra pedals to allow switching sound banks on the fly.This is a minor issue for me, however, since I only use a few saved settings.

Although Keeley Electronics is getting more and more accolades for their 2-knob and 4-knob compressors they are also very expensive. Yes, they are built extremely well but what guitar player has $300 to throw down on a compressor?

Barber enters the compression wars with the "Parallel Compressor." What separates this from other compressors is the "blend" knob, which allows you to blend your "dry" signal with the "effected" signal and in turn giving you more tonal options. There is also a trim-pot located inside the casing so you can set the compressor for a more "Dynacomp" effect.

The build quality is top notch and it is built rugged and it only costs $150, which is much less than other boutique pedals on the market. Its 100% true-bypass and the device is built for easy serviceability if needed.

To get more out of your OD pedal try placing this behind it in the chain. You may be pleased by the results. I have one on my board and I never turn it off, with the blend knob, you do not get that "pop" of the attack. The Tone Press can also function as a clean boost with 20 db of gain, which is also a nice feature.
