BOSS is great quality! Have used BOSS products for decades and have never been dissapointed. I bought this ME-20 to replace a ME-50 which was stolen from me. Not only is this one offered at a lower price, it also performs as well and more user friendly than the ME-50. Easy to use, powerfull, awesome- buy it.

Boss DD-20 Giga Delay Guitar Pedal Review

Boss DD-20 Giga Delay Guitar Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Boss DD-20 Giga Delay pedal may not be the last delay pedal you ever need but it may come close. This is another in the "twin pedal" design in the Roland line.

The layout looks imposing but is very simple and intuitive. You have your basic controls for feedback, delay time, effect level, delay mode, and tone. Setting the delay time can be adjusted manually via the black knob by either turning it to fine tune or pressing it for quicker advancement through the delay times.

The I/O of the device has an input for a control pedal, and headphone out , 2 inputs for stereo operation, by plugging in the "left" in and out will give you mono.

It would be really to your advantage to read the manual because you can assign the pedals to do different things, adjust how many "heads" to use for the tape delay (based on the Space Echo), how to adjust for -20db to +4db output, and other neat tricks.. There is also a way to reset the factory presets.

With 11 different delay types including "Sound On Sound", Reverse, Tape, Analog, Dual (long delay and slap at the same time), Pan, Smooth (has a reverb quality with the delay), modulation. The two "new" settings are "Twist" and "Warp."

The "Twist" mode is activated by the left pedal and causes the delay signal to speed up and oscillate.

The "Warp" mode holds the delay until you hit the pedal again.

This unit has 23 seconds of delay time and with the "SOS' function you can use this as a looper.

You can adjust your delay via either the right pedal or the button under the display. You can also adjust tempo as well.

You can store up to 4 settings in the memory.

This device is not "true-bypass" but the buffers in most Boss pedals are good in not affecting your tone. So if you have a bunch of pedals with "true-bypass" this should not be a problem. The other thing to note is the device is in an "always on" state and takes up a lot of real estate on the pedal board.

Granted the Giga Delay may have many bells and whistles that you may never use so give some thought on how you are going utilize this device. I bought it based on being able to store presets and having a "reverse" function. If you looking for a simpler delay pedal then look at the MXR Carbon Copy (which I also own). That is a versatile pedal in a small footprint.

Eleven delay modes are provided covering everything from analog and tape delay to reverse delay and more. A Memory function makes it possible to change delay modesSmooth and Twist ModesThe DD-20 also introduces two delay effects sure to blow some minds. Twist creates wild delay effects similar to over-the-top manipulation of an analog tape echo, while Smooth creates ultra-smooth delay effects. This is a pedal no guitarist should be without!

BOSS TU-2 Stage Tuner Review

BOSS TU-2 Stage Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had the Boss Chromatic tuner for 8 years. I used it as a gigging musician for three years, and it was the one part of my rig that never failed me. It's simple to use, very durable and versatile (for both guitar and bass, and with half step and step lower tunings). Now I use it in my home studio - it's far more reliable than any other tuner I've used, gear or software.

I've worked in the radio industry for over 5 years, and I've met a large portion of the alternative and active rock bands. When they come to play in the studio, they bring a Boss Chromatic tuner. I've had many conversations with these professional musicians about how they would vouch for it as their most indispensable piece of equipment.

At $99 bucks, it might seem kind of pricey. But the rest of your effects pedals are worthless if your guitar isn't in tune. Even if you're just a beginner or a hobbyist, this is one investment you'll be pleased you made over and over again.

DigiTech RP350 Guitar Effects Processor Review

DigiTech RP350 Guitar Effects Processor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The amp simulators alone make the Digitech RP350 worth the price of admission. No piece of solid state equipment can capture all of the nuances of tube gear, but this thing comes reasonably close.

The main limitation I found is that you can run only ONE effect at a time from the Chorus/FX module (delay and reverb are in a separate module). So running chorus and flange together is impossible. Ditto with phaser and pitch shift. I would strongly recommend visiting the Digitech website and downloading the manual so that you know exactly what you are getting. The website also has clips of the presets, though actually playing one would of course be better.

My only other gripe is that the Marshall Plexi simulation could use a higher maximum gain level. You have to mate it with a distortion pedal simulation to get a decent among of distortion. I prefer my Tech 21 Sansamp GT2 for 70s hard rock sounds.

For the price, this was well worth it for me. I just hope Digitech makes future models with two FX modules instead of only one.

DigiTech DL-8 HardWire Delay/Looper Extreme-Performance Pedal Review

DigiTech DL-8 HardWire Delay/Looper Extreme-Performance Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Recently upgraded to a tube amp that unfortunately has no effects.Since pedals are so expensive I decided to go with the DL 8 to start with. Not only is there a number of delay functions, there is a modulated delay that gives a nice chorus type of effect. There's also a slapback delay that gives a reverb type of effect and lastly there's a 20 second looper.Don't get me wrong, this isn't going to completely replace a chorus, reverb or looper but it's a great starter pedal that lets you create a variety of sounds until you can fill out your pedals. The looper is very basic. You can't save loops and once you start a loop you can't stop it and then start it again so this may not be the answer if you want to be a one man band. You can loop up to 20 seconds and then overdub over it which is a lot of fun.

The other main reason I chose the DL8 is that other reviewers stated there was no loss of tone using the pedal.I finally upgraded to a tube amp and dont want my pedals robbing the tone.I would agree that the signal stays pretty solid using this pedal and I didn't notice any loss of tone during use.One downer is thing eats batteries really quick. The first 9v lasted only a 2-3 hours of time.I'm going to invest in the power supply or some sort of powered pedal board. The pedal itself is heavy as a brick and seems built solid.I think it will last a long time but time will tell.Overall, a solid buy and I'm very happy

Love this box.Have/had MXR distort, digi Metal, ibanez Tubescreamer, Line 6 POD and to me the sound from OCD is better for many rock apps. The sound benefit is as hard to describe (but easy to love) - like a tube amp versus solid state - when you hear it - you know you need it - but its hard to explain in words whats distinct.I had huge doubts when my local guitar guy suggested it but one listen (and now owning it) I go past all the other named boxes and use this bad boy for a great variety of classic/heavy rock sounds.I use gibson LP, ESP kh2, ibanez JS, 70's Fender Strat and mesa 525 express with this/other boxes FYI.

Product Description:
The Fulltone OCD-Obsessive Compulsive Drive&mdashoverdrive pedal packs classic OD tones into a compact pedal with simple, no-fuss operation. From heavy crunch rich with overtones and feedback to spanky cleans, the OCD delivers the sounds of a great tube amp, as sell as the same sensitivity and response to your playing style. Along with standard Volume, Drive, and Tone controls, the OCD's HP/LP (High Peak/Low Peak) switch takes the pedal from a clean boost to manic, sustain-laden distortion. True bypass switching. The Fulltone Story Fulltone was founded in 1991 by Michael Fuller, a session guitarist, composer, performer, electronic tinkerer featured in Guitar Player magazine, and first place winner in their "Ultimate Guitarist Competition" Blues category. Fulltone pedals were born out of a love for music, tone, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, etc. Early on Fuller developed a love for fine vintage pedals, and his frustration at the inconsistencies and the often fragile nature of old gear drove him to start Fulltone. Rich, Fat-sounding TONE TOOLS with a reliable build quality is the goal. Fulltone effects carry a 5 year warranty and are built for (and by) musicians. Fulltone use True Bypass switching (with L.E.D. status indicators) in all our pedals, whenever possible. Most other pedals have a buffered output that destroys the performance of most pedals that follow in the signal-chain. Fuller says don't be fooled by the claims of "Pure Bypass," "Hard Bypass"...etc. These are just catch phrases to divert your attention away from the fact that those pedals are not true-bypass. I designed and manufacture the Fulltone 3PDT , the world's only Super-Duty Triple-Pole Double-Throw footswitch Fullertone manufactures their own custom potentiometers because what has been offered as "Industry Standard" has a 20% failure rate within 2 years is not acceptable to them. Great pedal. Great. However...
It was breaking down, so I got in touch with their repair dept. They said simply, Send it in and we'll fix it. Next message from them was an invoice for $60. About one-third the cost of a new unit to repair the two switches and LEDs. I paid, no questions. After making the full payment, I emailed them to comment/complain. Here is Mike Fuller's personal response:

You are a spoiled idiot.
Go away.

Zoom G2.1U Guitar Effects Pedal with USB Interface Review

Zoom G2.1U Guitar Effects Pedal with USB Interface
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this unit for over a year now, and have used it for practicing (mainly through headphones, occasionally plugged in to my little Marshall MG15-CDR), a few jam sessions, and a bit of recording into GarageBand on my MacBook Pro.

On the positive side:
- Very solid construction.
- USB audio interface works great with GarageBand, both for input (guitar signal going to MacBook) and monitoring (listening to already recorded tracks plus the track you're recording via the G2.1u's headphone output). When connected via USB, it gets power via USB too.
- Runs for several hours on 4AA batteries. I use rechargeables.(Never bothered with an external AC adapter).
- Excellent sound quality. All the fx sound quite good. The ZNR soft noise reduction really handy if you've got a bit of low-level hum/buzz from single-coil pickups.
- Pretty easy to dial in your own sounds.

A couple of downsides:
- No aux input!IMO this is *the* single missing feature that limits this unit's usefulness for practicing.I would love to be able to plug in an iPod. (Thinking of buying a Line 6 Pocket POD for this).
- The cabinet / mic modelling doesn't sound very convincing to me.
- With only two foot switches for stepping up/down through your list of patches, it can be awkward switching patches in the middle of a tune (e.g. between rhythm and lead settings) unless you've stored them on adjacent patch numbers. Really no way around that without having a bigger box with more footswitches.

All in all, a nice unit, and good value.Probably most useful as a recording interface using the excellent USB audio interface. OK for for live use (with caveat about limited footswitches) and for practicing (as long as you don't want to jam along with your iPod).

..............

Update December 2008: I got myself a Vox Amplug AC-30 a while back.Fun little unit (if a bit overpriced for what it does) - plug it into your guitar, plug in a mp3 player & some headphones, and jam away. Turns out it can also be used to get around the G2.1u's lack of an Aux input.

Just plug the Amplug into the G2.1u's output, and connect your headphones and mp3 player to the amplug. With the right settings on the Amplug (at least the AC-30 version), the Amplug runs pretty clean, so at the Amplug's headphone output you hear essentially the same as you'd hear if you plugged your headphones directly into the G2.1u.

Obviously this is a bit of a kludge, but if you happen to have both units, this is an option...

Product Description:
The G2.1u pedal offers two algorithms: One for live and one for recording. The sound you created at practice or in the studio can now be brought straight to the stage. Or take the sounds you worked out during a rehearsal and apply them seamlessly in the recording studio. Your creative scope has suddenly doubled.

96 kHz sampling brings out authentic sounding tube amp harmonics
Everyone knows that the sound of tube amplifiers is the ultimate in guitar tone. By employing high-accuracy sampling at 96 kHz, G2.1u pedal faithfully model these sonic properties, right up to the highest harmonic register. Dynamic range is also excellent, thanks to 24-bit A/D/A conversion. These extremely high levels of digital processing also make your playing sound cleaner and clearer thanks to the fast processing speeds.
ZFX-3: A new-generation DSP from ZOOM
The heart of any multi-effect device is its processor and decoder section. Zoom has reached a new level with its newly developed ZFX-3 chip. 32-bit architecture ensures smooth and detailed signal processing. Accuracy and speed bring out the character of your instrument without restrictions.
54 high-quality effects made possible by 32-bit processing
A total of nine effects modules are included, including dynamics, ambience, drive, and modulation. Together they offer 54 types of effects. The Harmonized Pitch Shifter lets you play along in key. Use long delays or multi-tap delay of up to 5000 milliseconds. Select dynamic flanger and have the effect level controlled by picking intensity. Select from three types of modulation waveforms for the tremolo. A multitude of high-performance choices opens up totally new territory in this class. Touch up the harmonic register with the six-band equalizer. The cabinet simulator gives a choice of mic positions. The G Series has in incredible level of flexibility and the ability to create an awesome array of great tones.
32-bit architecture ensures outstanding performance and allows smooth and detailed signal processing.
Power with AC adapter or with four AA batteries.
Control effect parameters in real-time with the built-in expression pedal.
Latest modeling technology supports 16 different drive sounds
By digitally simulating the clipping action of analog devices such as tubes and diodes, the G Series faithfully duplicates the distortion of tube amps and vintage effects. This includes not only the superficial sound character but also elements such as depth and dynamics. As you start using the G Series, you will be amazed by the realistic balance between fundamental notes and harmonics that is essential to a great analog tone.
The right tools for the job: Editing controls with analog feel
The three rotary knobs let you tailor three different parameters at the same time. This could be the equalizer bass/midrange/treble, or the chorus depth/rate/mixing level, or the delay time/feedback/mixing level. It's like having an array of stomp boxes ready for action. In play mode, the three knobs are assigned to drive effect gain, tone, and patch level. This lets you quickly match the unit's performance to the guitar or amp type, room acoustics, or other factors. Delay time and modulation rate settings can be made directly via the intuitive TAP key input.
Preset patches ready to use for recording or live performance
The unit comes preprogrammed with a total of 40 preset effects patches. 20 pairs of similar sounding and similarly named effects are optimized respectively for use with a guitar amp on stage or for recording with DAW software or a mixer. There are settings for duplicating well-known amps and stomp boxes, settings that are modeled on the signature sound of famous guitarists, as well as totally original Zoom creations. There is also enough built-in memory to store up to 40 of your own effects patches.
World's fastest patch change speed: 5 ms
Thanks to the speed of Zoom's new processors, that annoying interval when switching patches has been all but eliminated. With its amazing speed of 0.005 seconds, the G Series pedals never miss a beat. When changing from rhythm to lead, you no longer need to press the switch slightly in advance. Simply push the foot switch and start playing the solo phrase. No more fear of losing the rhythm when making patch changes.
Built-in auto-chromatic tuner for guitar
The guitar tuner can be called up instantly by pushing two foot switches together. High-brightness LED indicators make the note readout easy to see also on a dark stage. The calibration range is 435 to 445 Hz, and mute tuning without sound output is also possible.
ZNR makes those playing pauses silent
Zoom Noise Reduction (ZNR) was developed specifically for guitar. While keeping any alteration of the original sound to an absolute minimum, ZNR shuts out unwanted noise in the playing pauses. Even the tails of long sustain notes come out beautifully, with natural release. Additional flexibility is provided by two noise gates. The vintage type DIRTY GATE is a great match for fuzz sounds, while the high-speed muting of the GATE setting brings heavy riffs into clear focus.
Integrated drum machine with PCM sound sources
Realistic drum sounds derived from PCM sources are arranged in a variety of rhythm patterns for different musical genres. The 40 rhythm variations include the steady 8-beat of Rock and Pop, funky 16-beat, a "Jazzy" 4-beat, some great shuffle riffs for blues sessions, and many more choices. Rhythm training is a cinch, and the rotary knobs let you quickly make tempo or level adjustments.
Ultra low noise design: 120 dB SN ratio and -100 dB noise floor
Specifications such as a signal-to-noise ratio of 120 dB and noise floor of -100 dB demonstrate a level of performance that is unsurpassed in this class. Background noise is a thing of the past, leaving the unit free to produce only its own superbly transparent sound. Especially when using reverb effects such as Hall, Room, or Spring, the low noise floor combined with 96 kHz sampling and 32-bit processing results in breathtaking performance.
Sturdy metal chassis and rubber damping for superior toughness and durability
The combination of a solid metal chassis with shock-absorbent rubber damping ensures that the unit can stand up to the rigors of use on stage. Take it on the road or into the studio, the G Series will not let you down.
Two-way power allows use just about anywhere
Thanks to its circuit design optimized for low voltage operation, the unit will run for more than 7.5 hours on a set of four IEC R6 (size AA) batteries. A separately available AC adaptor (AC-0006) can be plugged in for extended studio work, whereas on stage you never need to worry about AC power.
Optional foot switch allows versatile remote operation
With an optional foot switch (FS01) you can set tempos for delay time and modulation rate. Other selectable functions include bank switching, drum machine start/stop, and delay hold on/off switching.
Expression pedal adds further versatility to your guitar play
The built-in expression pedal is a great way to control effect parameters in real time. Control the vintage wah, pitch shift, or adjust the volume dynamics. Go beyond conventional pedal effects by varying drive gain or modulation rate, and adjusting the mixing ratio of delay and reverb. The dedicated PEDAL ASSIGN key and status LED indicators make it a cinch to select the effect to control. Effect on/off switching is also possible by pushing the pedal fully down.
USB port enables computer recording
The USB port allows the unit to function as an audio interface for a computer. Simply connect a USB cable to utilize the high-quality sound of the G2.1u in a computer-based recording system. The high-performance DAW application "Cubase LE 4" comes bundled with the unit, so you can start creating sophisticated music straight away. Because playback from the DAW application can be monitored at the G2.1u itself, there are no latency problems during recording. Powering the unit from the computer via the USB bus is also supported.

Boss RC-2 Loop Station Effect Pedal Review

Boss RC-2 Loop Station Effect Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just want to mention that the other reviewer got something wrong. He mentioned that when you find a drum beat you like and accidentally go forward to another beat that you CAN'T go back to the previous one..He's wrong you CAN go back. You have to select the little musical note and press the "tap tempo" button. But anyway..About my review..

To me this pedal is near perfect. And I absolutely love it. I feel like i cant play with out this now...

The features : There are a lot of drums beats to choose from and they can easily be changed into a different tempo if they are not as fast or as slow as you would like them to be. There is also 11 spaces to record your songs/phrases to. and 16 minutes of recording which is more than enough for me but if it had more time i'd be happier.

If you want to record clean sounds with the pedal then thats ok. But if you want to use distorted guitar sounds you need a distortion pedal to go before the pedal or else the drums will distort. So if you plan on buying this pedal to record rock songs you might want to invest in a distortion pedal.

This pedal is the closest thing i have to having someone else to play with. It's also a great tool for learning songs that have more than one guitar. You just gotta record each guitar but that doesn't matter because its a whole lot of fun anyway.

The first couple of minutes with this pedal might seem confusing and maybe frustrating for others. But after about 20 minutes or so you really start to get the hang of it and what it can do. The only problem i've had with this pedal is that right from the start the AUX input didn't work, forgivable this time because a lot of my amps and stuff already have AUX inputs. I love this pedal and so will you.. I rarely ever play with out it now. And for $150 its worth it..unless you want to buy it on musiciansfriend for 189. go for it.

I also recommend an adapter for it like with any pedal these suck out the batteries power like nothing.

Line 6 FloorPOD Plus Review

Line 6 FloorPOD Plus

Well, I bought this to replace my Pod 2.0 and my floorboard. This is a more compact package with much better effects. The device is plastic, and probably won't be as durable as the floorboard (which is probably indestructible).I don't notice much of a difference in sound, if any.I haven't recorded with it yet, mainly used it live.

Ins and Outs

Whether you're practicing the songs you've written, recording an album, or playing live on stage, Floor POD® Plus has all the ins and outs you need to shine in any situation. Just plug in front of any guitar amp and crank it up, or plug directly into the board to instantly access that famous POD® direct tone.

MIDI In & Out - Connect Floor POD Plus to your MIDI equipment to select Channel Memories (via Program Change messages), automate settings (via Continuous Controller messages) and back up your tones (via SysEx). All the details are online at line6.com/manuals, in the downloadable MIDI Reference document.

Phones - When it's time to monitor while recording or to make sure you aren't going to keep the neighbors up all night, plug in the headphones here.

Output To Amp/Line - The unbalanced 1/4-inch connectors get the sound from your Floor POD Plus to a guitar amplifier, recorder, mixer or PA system. Flick the rear panel switch to AMP when you're feeding into the front of a guitar amp, or choose LINE to send you signal to a mixer or PA. The rear panel LEVEL knob sets the - you guessed it! – Your master output level. Changing the OUTPUT level does not change your tone, so you can get the tone you want at any volume level.

Aux Input - Connect a CD player, MP3 player, drum machine, virtual accordion, or other device here, and you'll hear it at the Floor POD Plus headphone and Left and Right outputs. Very handy for jamming along!

Input – Hey- Your guitar goes here.

Amazing Sound with Minimal Setup Time When you bring Floor POD® Plus to your gig, you have all of your signature sounds ready to go with no hassles. Plug in front of any guitar amp or use the direct outs to go to the mixing board, either way you're gonna sound great. Why? Because they are your sounds without compromise.

Record With Ease

When it comes time to record, Floor POD® Plus takes your signature sounds and lays them perfectly in the mix. Just plug it into the mixing board, call up your presets, and make music history. No more hauling around a bunch of heavy gear, so your broken back is a thing of the past.

DigiTech Whammy Pedal Re-issue with MIDI Control Review

DigiTech Whammy Pedal Re-issue with MIDI Control
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I rarely write reviews on anything and the only reason why I am writing this is because I feel the need to give recognition for all this pedal has brought me. I would refuse to play guitar without it, its that simple. you can pretty much create any sound you want and i would consider the whammy pedal just as important as my guitar. its easy to use, and extremely worth it, dont second guess here, put up the money trust me its worth it. Ive been playing with it for over a year now and even if all I had was $200 to my name, id still spend every last penny on this pedal.

Product Description:
The DigiTech Whammy is the upgraded reincarnation of one of DigiTech's most popular pedals. It's been almost a decade since DigiTech introduced the revolutionary, original WH-1 Whammy pedal. It has become one of the most sought after, most expensive pedals on the auction and used markets. Y2K brings the return of the original Whammy with the same metal construction and rotary controls, the same presets, smooth pitch bending and harmony effects -everything.But it doesn't stop there. After perfectly recreating the original, DigiTech added MIDI control and a new Dive Bomb effect. Dive Bomb sounds like youbottomed outa Floyd Rose to the point where the strings slap against the frets and pickups. However, the new Whammy has added the versatility of MIDI control making this timeless effect flexible enough for any situation. The newDive BombPreset gives the effect of a Floyd Rose whammy bar pushed all the way to the body of the guitar, and 16 LEDs provide a visual indication of your Preset selection even on dimly lit stages.

Zoom ZG21NU Guitar Multi Effects Pedal and USB Interface Review

Zoom ZG21NU Guitar Multi Effects Pedal and USB Interface
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Good for the buck. With patches (particular guitar sounds and the instructions on how to make them) being shared via internet, it's hard not to be satisfied. Drum machine gives you a few choices and lets you adjust tempo. I was disappointed that you could only record 5 seconds of playing....if I want to record a loop so as to have it being played constantly in the background, why limit it to 5 seconds or less? It makes no sense. If you can overlook that, I think you'll have fun with the product as a whole. Sturdy design, very functional...it even makes coffee!

DigiTech RP355 Modeling Guitar Processor and USB Recording Interface Review

DigiTech RP355 Modeling Guitar Processor and USB Recording Interface
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'd been using an RP350 for over a year before buying an RP355 for the added stomp-switch mode and 20-second looper.

The looper is simple, without undo or a means of controlling volume.Simplicity can be a plus for live performance, though.I did a solo improv performance after only 20 minutes of practice with the RP350.I've had more complex loopers that never got used due to the steep learning curve and higher probability of making mistakes.

The stomp-switch mode is a welcome addition, eliminating the need to sequence multiple patches in order to get different effect combinations.Unlike switching patches, there's no latency in turning an effect on or off.

The tuner is improved, being much less jittery than on the RP350.

The RP355 has nine new amp models and a ring modulator effect not present in the RP350. Some of the presets are different. As on the RP350, there are bound to be a few presets that'll satisfy most players, regardless of musical preference.

The RP355 sounds as good as the RP350, which is to say: great!Modelers work best in front of a full-range amplifier.I always play through a PA.I use a compact PA at home. When I play out I simply plug the RP355 into the venue's stage snake via the built-in DI.

I'm a former user of high-quality tube amps and boutique pedals who switched to modelers at the beginning of 2007; I've had no regrets.I've owned and auditioned more expensive modelers; the RP355 offers a desirable balance of features and simplicity at a very affordable price while not giving up much (if anything) to the high-end modelers in terms of sonic quality.
