(More customer reviews)If you are going to replace your old pickups,in your low end Strat, with Texas specials you need to change the pots,switch,and the capacitor.Stewart-MacDonald (stewmac.com)has the replacement parts kit.The older strats didn't have the cheap parts in them like they do today.And the cheap parts will keep your strat sounding like crap no matter what pick-up you put in them.

I have done the whole electronics makeover on my Squier and it does not matter which amp I plug into...it shreds.

(More customer reviews)There is no sense in not being honest, for how much you end up paying, you will feel very satisfied with this product.I've been abusing this gear for about 6 months and have only run into two problems.The amp to guitar cable just stopped working.Not too big of a deal, I ended up just buying a Monster brand cable 12ft for about $18 including shipping from Amazon and have been outstandingly pleased with the quality.The only other issue has been the cheap quality of the tremelo bar as it broke off inside of my bridge.This is a much harder fix, but this is a fairly minor issue once you start picking up more techinques on how to play (visit [...] it has like 300,000 free tabs and free video lessons on how to play... the DVD provided was okay but is eclipsed by this site).
Other than that, this is a nice little guitar.The fretboard feels great (the intonation on the upper frets seem a bit off but I hear this is pretty normal anyway) and the strings given hold up well for a good sound.The tuning heads hold nicely as well (I had a week were I played bout 5-6 hours a day pretty hard and I only lost bout a quarter note on each string).Not too many options with the amp, but playing around with it some and the pick-up selector can give amazing sounds all things considering.If you are worried that this little amp can't get loud, fear not.For at home use with OverDrive on, you can bug quite a few people in your home more than likely at level 2 volume (I play a bit less than 1 typically) and it goes up to level 10 volume!
Overall, this is well worth the money.Perhaps this gear is not the best suited for gigging, but that isn't what you should be buying a starter kit for anyway now is it? For anyone that wants to learn guitar with some cool sounds (acoustic can get old) this is probably the best $[...] (after shipping) or so dollars you can spend!

(More customer reviews)My old Squier Strat Korean edition had been dusty and ignored in a corner of my basement until I desided it to buy these pickups. The task was not easy because the instructions from Fender are very poor. You have to do some guess work mostly with the bridge pickup, the knobs, and the five-way switch. When you detach the old pickguard with the electronic, keep it as a reference. If you are upgrading your Squire chances are that you have to make more space for the new pickups in the body of your guitar carving some wood. But after a couple of trial and errors, the money and time spent was worth it. Wow! What a great fender classic sound! Do not hesitate and upgrade your guitar... NOW! As a final note, make sure that you have all the tools you need and you are going to need a new pickguard for sure.

Dean EVOXM Short Scale Bass, Classic White Review

(More customer reviews)When this bass showed up at my door, I was hopeful.The box looked a bit flimsy to get it here safely from China, but I was willing to give Dean the benefit of the doubt.That was my first mistake.A small round piece fell out of the foam paper wrapping.I couldn't figure out what it was until I noticed that I could see the gear on the back of one of the tuners.This was the back cover to the tuning key.Then when I turned the bass over to inspect it, a screw fell out of the neck pickup and wouldn't thread back in.

Finally, the neck was coming apart where the headstock was glued to the rest of the neck.If I would have run my hand up the neck quickly I might have gotten a splinter.

This bass is a piece of trash and Dean should seriously consider either changing their motto: "The world's finest guitars" or FIRING their Chinese manufacturers.I have a Hamer Slammer short scale bass (Made in Indonesia) and it is a gem.Try one on for size.I got it here at Amazon, as well.This Dean bass is a turkey.

(More customer reviews)This is a great case. The one that I bought was not the yellow tweed, actually.. I have the white/black tweed with the black interior. The compartment on the inside is nice. Great for holding things such as picks, an ebow, a slide, (it could fit a strap in there, too), capos, etc.

The quality is very nice. It holds up well.. I travel just about every weekend with a band, and after a year, it's still keeping the guitar in one piece.

My only thing is that (as suspected), white tweeds scuffs pretty easily. I imagine that the material just gets dirty easily. Yellow and white definitely. But, then again, it IS a case, so..

(More customer reviews)The thing that sets these pickups apart is that they produce the purest clean highs. If you want the fat Texas blues sound, these are not going to do it for you without a distortion pedal.On the other hand, if you want the "Little Wing" sound, these are for you.I like them because you have a choice.You can get a clean, classic Strat sound and still get a bluesy sound by adding a distortion pedal.Remember that Jimi Hendrix played current (at the time) brand new strats, so this is essentially the sound he started with to create his final sound.

By the way, the set that I got did not have a reverse wound middle pickup.That may have been a mistake on Fender's part, I don't know.I mention it in case it's important to you.

For some reason, they don't get as much attention as other Fender pickups, but I am extremely happy with them.

Dean Vendetta Guitar, XM with Tremelo, Trans Black Review

(More customer reviews)I'm writing this review to help beginners. For those who don't know, a tremelo is a whammy-bar. this guitar "DOES NOT" have one. But this is still an excelent beginners axe with better sustain than much more expensive guitars. I would'nt worry too much about a whammy-bar right now, the guitar goes out of tune right after the first couple of whammy-bar dive bombs. I have a tremelo on my Vendetta XMT, and never use ir for that very reason. I don't miss it at all. So, heres the meat and potatos- this axe has more than decent pick-ups, it delivers a huge range of tones. It sounds great clean and distorted. This is a great rock guitar and an awsome METAL axe. You name it, and it can do it. You're only limited by your own skill. And speaking of skill levels, this is a very forgiving axe, the neck is not lightning fast, but is still very fast and easy to manipulate. Again the string-through body gives it amazing sustain. The volume and tone controls are not the best, but they get the job done, and something you'll find on any axe in this price range. Also this is a real full-size 24 fret guitar. The Jackson's and Ibanez's in this price range are 22 fret, or short scale guitars. Last but not least make sure you get the guitar (SET-UP) before you play it. The set-up is extremely important, All quality guitar shops will do this for free-just for buying the guitar. So insist on it, or pay a guitar-shop $30-$60 later. The set-up does more than make your guitar sound right, it helps you learn easier- because everything works corectly. So, at the end of the day, I would definately buy another Dean. The Dean Vendetta Series

This is a great guitar for beginner or expert.
It's sold and well built.
The sound from it is great.
You can spend more for a guitar but why? This does just about everything thing you could want a guitar to do.
If you have kids that want to start playing or if you want to learn, this is the guitar for you.
I would also recommend Intelli IMT-900 Chromatic Clip-on Tuner. It does not use sound it uses the vibrations of the strings to tune your guitar. So if you are in a noisy room, cheep amp, etc.. it will not effect the tuning.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this amp at Guitar Center locally for the same price listed here.. $159.I can say that I do not regret my choice over a Marshall or Peavey.Don't let the lack of knobs and buttons fool you.If you play with the gain and overdrive, you can pull out anything from John Mellencamp to Queen to Metallica.The on board FX are spot on and sound beautiful and professional.It is very easy to produce a nice, full range acoustic sound as well. I was a little hesitant with my choice at first, but after playing with the amp for a few days, I wouldn't give it up for anything.Volume is what is expected for a practice amp.For general playing, I never put it over 2 or 3.I did put it up to 5 once, and I do not see why you could not keep up with drums at that level.I don't see this amp gigging, maybe a very small club or lounge, but it does what it was intended to do.. and it does it well.

I really wish this model was foot switch compatible, but I knew it wasn't when I purchased it.I suppose most people use pedals anyway.But the quality of sound and effects from this amp is awesome.

(More customer reviews)For the money, I have absolutely no complaints about this guitar.It was well-intonated and set up from the factory, and it stays in tune quite well.I'm using D'Addario 9-42's and love the way it plays and sounds.Not mind-blowing pickups, but they're not noisy and nothing has come loose.Yeah, the nut's cheap thin plastic, but that's an easy upgrade.After it was in the house a few dry winter months I had to file the fret ends a bit too, but you've gotta expect that sort of thing.This is the kind of guitar that a beginner would probably not appreciate, thinking that dollars equal quality, but for somebody who knows better, this axe is a real sleeper.The maple neck is very high quality, tight grained wood, with a comfy and fast profile, and the whole guitar is light. It's my everyday player and I couldn't be happier with it.

(More customer reviews)I went to my local music store, set on buying a Made-In-Mexico Strat, but couldn't pass this little guitar up for 1/4 of the price!I actually bought two, I was so impressed.Sure, it's not an American Strat, headstock snobs will turn up their noses at the Squier brand, and quality control isn't top-tier (as with several Squier guitars).But it plays great, is very light weight, and has a wonderful neck.Great for any guitarist, in any application.The tuners and nut are exceptionally cheap, some examples had sloppy neck joints, and you may want to check out a couple models in person to find a prime example, but the ones made correctly are 100% Strat.Highly recommended for any guitarist; an incredible buy.

P.S. The Daphne Blue is closer to Surf Green, in appearance.

I popped these into my Mexican Strat along with some locking tuners and upgraded electronics (all told around $200) and it sounds better that most stock American Strats now. Installation was simple (if you are not handy with a soldering iron have a shop take care of it) although I was a little confused that the bridge pickup had the differently colored wires and not the middle pickup (which is usually wired out of phase with the neck and bridge).

Fender Mustang II Electric Guitar Amplifier Review

(More customer reviews)I can't say enough about how impressed I am with this amplifier.Fender has really packed a load of usable features into an affordable, excellent sounding package.I've had the amp for two weeks now and am still exploring all of its capabilities, but it's one of the most exciting guitar products to come my way in years.

First of all, the different amp presets sound absolutely killer and the included FUSE software allows for easy editing and you can store an unlimited number of presets on your computer.There are many amp models and effects to choose from and the FUSE interface is so simple even an old school knob twirler like myself can handle it.Using the computer, you can replace the factory presets on the amp with your own, making it a truly custom amplifier.

Secondly, I was really impressed with the sound I can get from the amplifier.I have always preferred tube to solid state and this is the first modeling amp I've really been impressed with.It just sounds fantastic, with real differences between the various amp models you can choose from.It's been a real treat to be able to explore the different models, such as the Bassman, the Deluxe, Princeton, Twin, and other Fender and non-Fender amplifiers.The 12" speaker sounds great and the forty watts provides plenty of power, at least for my purposes.

Lastly, Fender has outdone themselves with the options they include.The amp features an input for your audio/MP3 player-great for those of us who like to practice along with music, a headphone output that doubles as a speaker emulator for recording, and a USB connection for connecting to the FUSE software and recording software.Fender has also included free recording software (Ableton) and their Amplitube software (as seen on the most recent iPad commercial).And you get all of this for two hundred bones.Well done, Fender!

If you're interested in this amplifier, do yourself a favor and check out the demo video on Fender's website.It's a really nice overview of the features and they also have sound samples of some of the presets you can listen to.The amp sounds just as good in person.

(The Mustang I is a 20 watt amp with an 8" speaker, but has all of the same goodies as the II if you don't need the power and want to save a hundred bucks.)

So far I am pretty satisfied with this purchase.Initially the guitar arrived to my home damaged due to it getting damaged during shipping."Austin Bazaar", the company selling these units offered to replace it free with free shipping; but only after I emailed them detailed pictures of the damage.After the replacement came it has been ok so far.

However here are some key things I can share with someone who is thinking about buying this combo guitar pack:

- The guitar and amp that arrive are actually different than what you see in the picture.

- The guitar looks almost identical to a fender stratocaster except it's missing the fender logo of course.The head's shape (where the machine heads are) is slightly different than a fender's too.

- The guitar is actually more of a teal/blue color.The picture on this website shows a dark metallic blue, but mine is a medium blue, and almost teal colored, which was a little disappointing.

- The brand name displayed on the guitar is "G.Burton".However the first "damaged" version this guitar that I got and returned had the brand "austin bazaar" written on it.

- The blue paint indeed is metallic but mine had some tiny black/purple-ish specs of paint in it. Not sure how they got there but it was there right out of the box.

- The Amp looks different than what is shown in the picture too.The brand is "Eleca" and looks pretty classy and modern.There's some slight buzzing when the volume is turned up very high, but that is expected for a simple beginner combo pack at this price.

- The 5 way switchable tones are nice to have and work pretty well.

- The 2 tone knobs don't really change the tone very much at all, and I couldn't tell any difference in sound when adjusting these knobs.

- It comes with a gig bag but it's a non-padded gig-bag so it's for very casual/basic use only and doesn't offer much protection.

- It came with only 1 pick.

- It came with 1 guitar string. Not a set of 6 strings like the description mentions, but literally just one extra string.

- Also came with a very simple black guitar strap.

Overall there are definitely some short-comings with this combo guitar pack but overall I'm pretty satisfied because the price is pretty reasonable and everything has worked well so far.The main downsides is that the guitar/amp that comes with it might be a little different than what you see in the pictures shown and there aren't some accessories other beginniner packs offer like a tuner or a full set of strings.But for a beginniner it's still a good combo pack to use for learning at a good price.

(More customer reviews)I have this guitar pack and I have to say that the number of negative comments is amazing.I am not sure what people expect for $200.00.No! This is not a $1200.00 dollar American made strat, nor is the $500.00 Mexican made strat.It's a low cost made in China strat.

Regardless of where it was made, I found the workmanship to be very acceptable.The guitar is beautiful and the rosewood fretboard is very nice.The whole guitar has a solid feel.My only real complaint is that the center pickup has an unusually low level output.But there is no way I would return this guitar just because of a single pickup.At worst case I'd just have Fender send a replacement.And Yes! As other reviews have noted, the amp hums a little (especially at higher volumes).But, this has more to with the single coil pickups used in the guitar.If you want humbucker pickups, you're going to pay more.Also the amp is just a small 10W practice amp.It works fine for lower volume practicing.I have fallen in love with mine and play it quietly in the evenings to relax from the world.

I have a family and very little extra money.I am greatful that Fender has provided these low cost kits.It gives me the opportunity to own and relax with a Fender, something that would be questionable with a better (read more expensive) guitar.And, if the kids develop an interest, I won't cry too much if they add a few scratches to it.

Folks need to keep things in perspective.This is a low cost entry level guitar.Understanding those limitations, I highly recommend this kit to anyone just starting out.
