(More customer reviews)I have bought several instruments from Musician's Friend and several Rogue instruments, as well. All of these Rogue instruments are of excellent quality. We have an acoustic dreadnought, a 12 string dreadnought, and this concert size acoustic electric.

For those of you looking for a beginning instrument or a second instrument, definitely look at Rogues. We are so impressed with everything we've received from both Musician's Friend, and its "house brand", Rogue.

When my son wanted to learn guitar, we were going to just give him one of my husband's, but it was really too big. So, we decided to get him this concert size cutaway guitar. We looked at a lot of instruments and decided to go with the Rogue. Rogue instruments do not have a wide varying price range. The highest priced instrument doesn't go over a couple of hundred dollars. So, when you spend only $100 on something, they aren't cutting a lot of corners from their highest-end models. Conversely, if you buy a starter Gibson package or some other well-respected company's starter pack, they cut a lot of corners from their highest-end guitars/stringed instruments. If a company makes a guitar that retails over a few thousand dollars, or even if the average selling price is $500, they are going to cut a lot of corners to make a guitar (or mandolin) priced at under $100.

So, this specific guitar came with Martin Strings.Yes, they make great instruments, but only decent strings. Still, these sounded fine.The action on this specific guitar was pretty low. We would have preferred LOWER, but it isn't too high.The pickup/preamp system works great! I read on Musician's Friend's website that some people have had difficulty with this, but not here.The finish, beautiful.Everything about this guitar screams, "I'm a $400 guitar".The sound-- most importantly-- is pretty rich for a cutaway concert size guitar with a pickup installed. I think it sounds great. My husband does, too, although he doesn't think it's quite as rich as a dreadnought.I don't hear too much of a difference.

With the Rogue instruments, this just isn't an issue. Want a twelve string? Only a bit over a hundred and sounds great! Want a mandolin? Nothing is stopping you at under $50. And, you really won't be disappointed, either. Even if you have to lower the action or pay for a professional setup, you still come way out ahead.

We have very expensive instruments in our house and we have these Rogues. The Rogues feel and sound as if they are $400 instruments. No comparison to the $100 famous brand starter guitars I looked at.This one will last for years.

Takamine Jasmine ES31C Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

(More customer reviews)The ES31C is a great deal, and I do not regret purchasing mine in the least! The sound is rich and resonant, and the guitar feels very comfortable to hold and play. The action is nice, and the dreadnought body (although obviously large)is very resilient and holds up to some tough playing. I purchased mine about 6 months ago, and aside from changing the strings every month or so, the guitar has really needed no upkeep. The only other issue I have had is when a friend scratched my pickguard up by playing excessively rough - but I fixed that problem by removing the old pick-guard and replaced it with a few dollar self-adhesive replacement that I purchased locally from Elderly instruments. I keep it clean and polished with Martin guitar polish (also an excellent product), and I use Martin SP strings (the strings that come with this Takamine are the guitar's only real fault - they just do not sound as good as they should, and are poor quality. However, that is an easily remedied problem, Martin SPs cost about $5. For the value price of this guitar, you can't really expect them to ship it stock with nice phosphor/bronze strings, so they give you what appears to be some sort of cheap nickel/iron. Oh well, took 5 mins to fix.

I play everything from Eric Clapton to Pink Floyd, Nirvana to Nickelback, and System of a Down to Stone Temple Pilots all on this one guitar, and it handles everything with no problem. If you are a professional, you may not be quite as pleased with this instrument, as the Takamine does use a maple neck, and is not made from the most expensive of wood (like those multi-thousands of dollar Martins and Washburns) - but anyone who isn't a professional (myself included) would never know the difference. Honestly, this guitar plays and sounds better than many I have tried that cost hundreds of dollars more. Buy it now, and thank me later.

(More customer reviews)This is a pretty ordinary guitar...but even the price is ordinary so it breaks even i guess. let me put the cons first.

1. the guitar action is pretty high...i had to adjust the bridge tomake it more playable.
2. i have a yamaha acoustic guitar and this guitar is pretty tough to play in comparision so not recommended for beginers.
3. if you plan to buy one be sure to change the strings as soon as you can.

pros:
1. pretty light guitar considering it has a fishman pickup built in.
2. sounds really good if played correctly.
3. body structure and fret board are very adorable.

(More customer reviews)During my first lesson, my guitar teacher allowed me to practice with his Ovation Applause.I loved the sound and how it snugly fit in my lap.I purchased this model after my first lesson and have never been disappointed.The sound quality is smooth and even.The look and feel is not cheap, but sturdy and attractive.

If you're starting out, don't buy one of those $100 Guitar Packages but spend a few extra dollars and purchase this one.You won't regret it.
