Rogue Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Natural Review

Rogue Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have bought several instruments from Musician's Friend and several Rogue instruments, as well. All of these Rogue instruments are of excellent quality. We have an acoustic dreadnought, a 12 string dreadnought, and this concert size acoustic electric.

For those of you looking for a beginning instrument or a second instrument, definitely look at Rogues. We are so impressed with everything we've received from both Musician's Friend, and its "house brand", Rogue.

When my son wanted to learn guitar, we were going to just give him one of my husband's, but it was really too big. So, we decided to get him this concert size cutaway guitar. We looked at a lot of instruments and decided to go with the Rogue. Rogue instruments do not have a wide varying price range. The highest priced instrument doesn't go over a couple of hundred dollars. So, when you spend only $100 on something, they aren't cutting a lot of corners from their highest-end models. Conversely, if you buy a starter Gibson package or some other well-respected company's starter pack, they cut a lot of corners from their highest-end guitars/stringed instruments. If a company makes a guitar that retails over a few thousand dollars, or even if the average selling price is $500, they are going to cut a lot of corners to make a guitar (or mandolin) priced at under $100.

So, this specific guitar came with Martin Strings.Yes, they make great instruments, but only decent strings. Still, these sounded fine. The action on this specific guitar was pretty low. We would have preferred LOWER, but it isn't too high. The pickup/preamp system works great! I read on Musician's Friend's website that some people have had difficulty with this, but not here. The finish, beautiful.Everything about this guitar screams, "I'm a $400 guitar".The sound-- most importantly-- is pretty rich for a cutaway concert size guitar with a pickup installed. I think it sounds great. My husband does, too, although he doesn't think it's quite as rich as a dreadnought.I don't hear too much of a difference.

With the Rogue instruments, this just isn't an issue. Want a twelve string? Only a bit over a hundred and sounds great! Want a mandolin? Nothing is stopping you at under $50. And, you really won't be disappointed, either. Even if you have to lower the action or pay for a professional setup, you still come way out ahead.

We have very expensive instruments in our house and we have these Rogues. The Rogues feel and sound as if they are $400 instruments. No comparison to the $100 famous brand starter guitars I looked at.This one will last for years.

39 Inch Metallic Silver Electric Guitar Beginner Kit with 10 Watt Amp Review

I bought this guitar for my husband last Christmas...unfortunately, they sent the wrong guitar and I had to give it to him a week early b/c their return/exchange policy is so restricted and finite. We ended up returning and not exchanging because of their unwillingness to be flexible during to holiday season with regards to returns and exchanges. Also, the wrong colored guitar had a BIG scuff mark on it and it took FOREVER and several emails (they don't have a phone system) for the company to refund my money. As for the quality... I couldn't tell you.

First Act 222 Designer Electric Guitar Pack - White (AL222) Review

First Act 222 Designer Electric Guitar Pack - White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me first start by saying I previously owned a $500 Harmony guitar, which was a beautifully designed guitar with great style and sound.

With that in mind, I was looking for an affordable way for me to get back into guitar playing and casually recording, after about 7 years of not playing.I was hesitant to purchase a "cheapy guitar," as I've been quite snobby about the $500 and up brands, but I have a family now and I am in a limited income to afford such splurges.

This guitar easily blew me away. This is not a cheap imitation of a Fender or a Gibson. It has a very distinctive tone, which I am amazed at.For this price, you won't beat the quality of guitar you're getting.I can't lie and say it holds a candle to the expensive brands, but I can say this guitar is a dark horse in the competitive guitar market, and it has a quality and sound unequaled by other beginning guitars. It has an absolutely brilliant and bright tone.I am pleasantly surprised, and I look forward to playing this guitar for some time to come.

As far as the cons? The guitar itself is very hardy, and sounds wonderful. However, the amp leaves much to be desired. With the tone and gain turned all the way down, the sound is great. However, just one notch either way and it sounds like a malfunctioning loudspeaker at Jack in the Box.

Also, the guitar strap isn't the most comfortable and doesn't latch well to the knobs. This is a cheap replacement, though. The audio cord is very cheaply made, as well, and is quite flimsy.I wouldn't doubt it gets static very soon.It does do it's job, however.I just doubt it will have a long life.

Overall, this is a great guitar, a great value, and I recommend it for the beginner or the casual player, excusing the flaws of it's accessories.

Silvertone Sessions-Master Pro Electric Guitar, Cherry Sunburst Review

Silvertone Sessions-Master Pro Electric Guitar, Cherry Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, let me start by saying I was so very skeptical when I saw this guitar advertised here on Amazon.com. I was skeptical because I have played Les Paul guitars, I have played Les Paul copies, and some copies were good and some Les Paul guitars were cheap (epiphone 100 etc.). So when searching for a Les Paul copy, how do you get a good one at a really reasonable price? WEll I was convinced that I would have to spend 225.00 or more to get a decent copy. Agile had good reviews, but I kept wanting to buy the upper level to get what I want and that bordered 300.00 bucks. Well, if your going to spend that, why not get a Les Paul Studio series for about the same? Well for me, thats because the studio series didn't have all the bells and whistles. So I kept searching. HERE IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING!

I had nothing to go on but reviews. So I read a ton of them. Just about the time I was ready to buy I would read a bad review on the guitar I wanted. UNTIL I FOUND THIS SILVERTONE SSL3 CS. I couldn't find many reviews. But I did find one guy that was an experienced player and very eloquent in how he decribed this guitar. I was intrigued at how he had taken it to his local guitar shop to have the action tweaked a little (I will have to adjust mine a tiny bit too), But he described how the guitar shop tech was amazed at his SILVERTON SSL3, and he went on to say how the tech pulled some Les Paul guitars from the shelf and compared them. He said he was in Awe of the quality of the Silvertone. I somewhat agree.

I unboxed my Silvertone SSL3 just today and I couldn't wait to write about it. What an amazing guitar with amazing craftsmanship! The guitar is almost setup perfectly except for tiny bit of string buzz on two strings. Slightly raising the action did not cure the problem. But the guitar looks great, balanced well and sounds amazing! I forgot to mention it is total EYE CANDY also! It is beautifully constructed of obviously quality materials. The finish is perfect and flawless. This is not a light piece of junk. I cannot tell the difference in the weight and feel of a 1500 dollar Les Paul. And I paid [...] bucks with FREE SHIPPING! Did I mention, FREE SHIPPING! I really thought I would need to at least install better pickups to be satisfied because I record a lot. Well, I was pleasantly wrong about that!

After not being able to get the BUZZ out of the strings, I emailed the seller and Scott at American Music Outlet said BOX it up and ship it back. I did that and before the guitar made it back to them, they had already shipped me another one, but they took the time to set this one up perfectly for me..low action with minimal string buzz. Wow am I happy about that! These guys were awesome and do have a guitar tech to set up your guitar when you purchase it!

The ONLY thing I can say negative about this guitar other than the string buzz is really not about the guitar at all..that is the warranty card says five years. The box and the seller say lifetime warranty. But either way, it is a steal at [...] bucks and I am considering buying another just in case I need another! It says on a removable sticker on the back of the headstock that it was made in Indonesia. I had no idea they could make guitars of this quality over there.

IN CONCLUSION:This guitar gets a solid B+ only because of string buzz..its not far from an A, after my experience with American Music outlet and Scott setting up a replacement for me, I give it an A now for sure. I'm not going to say its a good guitar for the [...] money, because its a good guitar for any amount of money. This guitar should cost 300-600 bucks to get this kind of quality. But then folks would just buy a Les Paul I guess, but as for me? I don't buy it because of the name, I buy it because of the quality which usually means a brand name..but not in this case! Buy it, and if you don't love it, sell it for a profit! Most places I found this guitar want [...] dollars. Its a steal at that price. But this seller on Amazon.com has it at [...] and free shipping which is UNBELIEVABLE. Do not be afraid. I am the most critical human you will ever read a review from and this guitar is a real quality constructed beautifully sounding guitar and surpasses most Les Paul Copies I have ever seen, it surpasses many epiphone also and know this..I have to have quality and value or I am not happy. I have never been happier with a purchase in my entire life! Thank you Silvertone (Made by Samick who makes guitars for many of the BRAND NAME COMPANIES) for an incredible guitar at an amazing price.

Dean EVO XM Solid Body Electric Guitar, Trans Black Review

Dean EVO XM Solid Body Electric Guitar, Trans Black
Average Reviews:

Dean EVO XM (black)

Positive(s): Great look. Great feel. Excellent quality. Sweet sound. Stays in tune a long time. Looks great. Came with 6 foot long cord. Was prestrung (but had to tune it, of course). Totally worth the money!!

Negative(s): When it arrived, the nuts holding the knobs and the switch were a little loose. I tightened them and all was well. It only took me about 2 minutes to tighten them.

Concerns: Does not come with a strap or stand (no big deal, just letting you know).

Delivery Concern: The guitar itself was packed in a "Dean" guitar box with minimal protection around it (no big deal if it were just sitting in a warehouse somewhere waiting to be purchased). When it was delivered to me, Amazon packed it in an additional, larger box but there was only about 2 pieces of packing paper protecting it and keeping the "dean" box from moving around. Luckily my guitar arrived undamaged which was a surprise due to the lack of packaging materials used. Pack your packages better, Amazon!

Washburn OG2N Oscar Schmidt Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar - Natural
Average Reviews:

I love this guitar. Easy to play. Great Sustain and can play loud or soft. Higher frets are difficult as the strings get some distance from the fretboard. But good for fretboard finger strength excercises. It has a very deep and resonant voice for a guitar in this price range. I have played Martins and Guild Dreadnoughts that sounded better. But not THAT much better! A good take anywhere bang around guitar. I would not part with it.

Dean's X Series offers some of Dean's most popular body styles--the ML, V, and Z--at an affordable price. But they don't skimp on components, with a pair of high-output Dean humbuckers, Grover tuners, a Tune-o-Matic bridge. Dean style and dependability are an added bonus.

MLX at a Glance

    Fretboard: Rosewood
    Inlays: Dot

    Finish: Braziliaburst

Tune-o-Matic bridge and Dean zebra humbuckers.

Classic Dean headstock with Grover tuners.

The Dean X Series
The Dean X Series offers ML, V and Z style guitars at a price that won't break the bank. These guitars feature maple necks, rosewood fretboards, dual humbuckers, and plenty of Dean mojo, and are built to rock--perfect for beginners and veterans alike.Basswood Body
The MLX features a lightweight basswood body. Basswood is great for heavier rock and metal styles, delivering a nice even tone that feeds a dirt pedal (or a dimed Marshall) nicely.Bolt-On Construction
Bolt-on neck construction provides an affordable alternative to set-neck or thru-body designs. The advantage of this design is that if you do have any neck trouble down the line, you can easily replace it. The Dimeblade's maple neck features an ultra-playable 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, with classic dot inlays.Dean Humbucker Pickups
To capture the biting tones of vintage Deans, the company includes two of its standard humbuckers, in black-and-white "zebra" style for looks as good as the sounds. And what to expect tonally? These pickups should provide more than enough bite for modern styles, along with plenty of low-end and midrange definition. The standard three-way selector allows bridge, neck, or a combination. Each pickup gets a volume pot, and they share the tone control.Grover Tuners
If you play guitar then you know what this means--solid, dependable tuning from the industry standard. These guitar machines are a triumph in engineering and style, with a gear ratio of 14:1, perfect gear meshing, and zero backlash and slippage. The gear box has a special lubricant for lifetime, trouble-free service.
Tune-o-Matic Bridge
The Tune-o-Matic bridge with string-thru body design provides serious sustain, along with precise intonation for your tuning preference. The classic v-shaped plate mirrors the headstock wings for some nice vintage Dean style.

Oscar Schmidt OF2 Folk Acoustic Guitar Review

Oscar Schmidt OF2 Folk Acoustic Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great value. This guitar looks great and is very well made. The sound is good, not great. It is somewhat weak sounding and tinny. This is in comparison to other low and mid priced guitars. It seems to be holding tune well, although the strings are still new and stretching. This is not a toy. Really crappy (toy) guitars can sell for similar prices or even more. You probably will not be able to get a better sounding guitar in this price range.

I think the folk size is better than 3/4 size for young teens and small adults. Dreadnought size can be uncomfortable to play, especially for beginners. Be careful if you want a case (especially a hard case). Bring the guitar with you to to check the fit. The size and shape of this guitar may make it slightly more difficult to find the right case. Don't buy one that is too big, the case should fit very snug.

I highly recommend this guitar for this price range.

Dean Custom Zone Solid Body Electric Guitar, 2 Humbuckers Florescent Pink Review

Dean Custom Zone Solid Body Electric Guitar, 2 Humbuckers Florescent Pink
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this neon pink Dean Custom used on eBay for[...].Pink wasn't my first choice in color, but I couldn't pass it up for the price. But when I got it, I was stoked. The guitar looks hot! I've been playing for almost 4 years and own a Jackson Kelly JS30KE, Squire Strat, Carlson SG1, and a couple Paul Stanley PS series Washburns for show. I play mainly rock... KISS, AC/DC, Def Lep and a bunch of other 80's Butt-Rock tunes and blues and this guitar is perfect for that. Sounds better than my Squire and stock Kelly (until I put in a Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck in the bridge). The action was very low, no fret buzz, tuners feel cheap and might be replaced w/Sperzels soon, but they work. I hear using the whammy bar takes it out of tune quickly, but since I rarely use the whammy, I wouldn't know so I don't care.
This guitar can be purchased for [...] online and retails for [...]. If you can pick this up for [...] or cheaper, you got a deal! I would recommend this guitar for any beginner or novice, or anyone that wants a nice sounding guitar at a killer price. Way better than the Squire Stratocaster that most beginners (like me) usually get for a first guitar. Neck feels smooth, no sharp fret edges that I've noticed. No inlays either... that took getting used to, but looks slicker than snot! Feels sturdy too. This guitar RAWKS... go buy one.

This is a pretty ordinary guitar...but even the price is ordinary so it breaks even i guess. let me put the cons first.

1. the guitar action is pretty high...i had to adjust the bridge tomake it more playable.
2. i have a yamaha acoustic guitar and this guitar is pretty tough to play in comparision so not recommended for beginers.
3. if you plan to buy one be sure to change the strings as soon as you can.

pros:
1. pretty light guitar considering it has a fishman pickup built in.
2. sounds really good if played correctly.
3. body structure and fret board are very adorable.

Applause acoustic guitars have always been my brand of choice. I've played some good music with their line over the past 26 years, because of the depth of sound, and overall durability. Their acoustic products are ideal for the novice player through intermediate, or even professional. This model handles well, but can take some getting used to. Paulownia is an increasingly popular substitute for mahogany in more affordable guitar models. It's a fast-growing, hearty tree native to Japan and Southeast Asia, and has traditionally been used for Asian string instruments. As a lightweight, porous body wood, Paulownia is somewhat similar to swamp ash in its sonic signature: very resonant, with plenty of chime and a nice, tight low-end.Bolt-On Construction
Bolt-on neck construction provides an affordable alternative to set-neck or thru-body designs. The advantage of this design is that if you do have any neck trouble down the line, you can easily replace it. The ML Knight features a maple neck and an ultra-playable 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, with classic dot inlays.Dean Humbucker Pickups
To capture the biting tones of vintage Deans, the company includes two of its standard humbuckers. These pickups provide more than enough bite for modern styles, along with plenty of low-end and midrange definition.

It all came in at the same time, also it was crazy because it came the same day it was shipped. In very good shape nothing wrong except there is a film over the white part just found that. All though the strap didn't come, but I really like it and would recommence it.

Playmate by Dean Avalanche Electric Guitar Kit (Amp, Gig Bag, Black) Review

Playmate by Dean Avalanche Electric Guitar Kit
Average Reviews:

I bought the Dean Playmate Pack three years ago when I was first getting started with the guitar, and remember being very displeased with its quality. Things went well for about three months- then the cord shorted- just died. I bought a new cord and played for three months- and the amp blew. I didn't drop it or turn it up too loud (1/4 the volume, in fact). It just grew more and more temperamental, then died. The final thing to go was the strap, which tore after infrequent use. I still have the guitar, which works fine, but I thought I was getting more than that when I bought it.
