Epiphone Lefty LP Special II Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar, Heritage Cherryburst Review

Epiphone Lefty LP Special II Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar, Heritage Cherryburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For the money, the Les Paul Special II is quite possibly the most tempting Les Paul ever made for the Left handed guitarist. However, most experienced players are probably wondering... what am I getting into, here, buying one of these budget versions of a classic? Well, for starters, you are getting phenomenal tone, worthy of the Les Paul name. Yes, I have had mine for almost four years now and have played along with other musicians using far more expensive top of the line guitars... and I never fail to get complements on the tones I get out of this instrument. From smooth clean, to heavy distortion, the two humbucking pickups give you tremendous flexibility and perhaps the best Les Paul sound you will ever find for a guitar is this price range.

Those are the pros. Here are the cons: Inexpensive instruments = inexpensive parts. Out of the box, my guitar sounded great and the comfortable low action set up was more then adequate to keep me content. However, with time, this guitar will reveal and keep you reminded that it is an inexpensive guitar. The inside electronics will require maintenance at some point, and possibly an eventual replacement, as they become loose and produce bad static noise with time (I have found I am not the only one with this problem). The machine heads, knobs, and cheap plastic jackplate you also want to eventually replace or upgrade. However, these are relatively inexpensive fixes (plus the warranty covers a lot). If you are willing to accept that this guitar will require some fix ups down the road, with this price I'd say you are still getting quite an amazing instrument. Oh, and did I mention the guitar simply looks awesome?

Despite its cons, this guitar will give you the Les sound without the expected Les price tag. It's not perfect, but you won't be braking the bank here either. For the beginner, or budget minded like myself, there is very much to like about the Les Paul Special II. And for the left-handed player, even more!!!

Product Description:
That trademark Les Paul shape in an economical package, including to open-coil Alnico V Humbucker pickups for great classic sound and the Tune-o-matic bridge/Stopbar tailpiece combo for sustain and that signature Les Paul tone.

A Lefty With Les Paul Features in an Economical Package.

Angled Headstock
Unlike cheaper designs, all Epiphones feature a 14-degree headstock that gives you more pressure at the nut and so you get more sustain with less tuning hang-ups caused by "string-tree" gadgets.
Alnico V Humbucker pickups and the industry-standard Tune-O-Matic bridge.
Rosewood fretboard with dot inlays.
Double-Waxed Pickups
Epiphone utilizes a double vacuum waxing process that ensures optimum performance. The pickup is first placed in the specialized wax vacuuming system before the cover is put in place to ensure that the wax fully penetrates to the very center of the pickup and solidifies all parts. After the cover is placed on, it is again given a second vacuum wax bath until the unit is completely saturated with wax.
Output Jack
To increase reliability and ensure consistent performance, Epiphone's proprietary output jacks feature an improved contact shape and heavy-duty spring steel.
Toggle Switches
All Epiphones feature our all-metal, USA designed switches for reliable contact and longer life.
Tunomatic Bridge
Fully adjustable, the tunomatic remains a classic after over 50 years. Unlike guitars fitted with tremolos, there are no tuning or re-stringing difficulties. Plus, tone and sustain are improved because all string vibrations are transferred directly to the guitar.
Potentiometers
Epiphone is passionate about performance. That's why their instruments use one-inch diameter potentiometers for better "throw," longer life and reliable service.
Quick-Connectors
For unequalled reliability as well as ease of service, Epiphone wiring harnesses feature quick-connectors.

Dean Acoustic-Electric Bass Cutaway 5 String Satin Finish Review

Average Reviews:

I've never ordered an instrument online before so I was a bit nervous that it would be junk. I was happy to get it and find that it is a pretty nice guitar. The EQ isn't much but I not too worried about that anyway 'cause I got it to play acousticly. It has a really nice sound and I can't believe how loud it is even with the b string. Good Bass and is worth the money. I'm Happy with it.

Vox ToneLab ST Guitar Multi-Effects Processor Pedal Review

Vox ToneLab ST Guitar Multi-Effects Processor Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the VOX Valvetronix Tonelab ST about 2 months ago and love it.I'm primarily a keys player who backs up the lead guitarist occasionally on guitar, so I needed a unit with plenty of preloaded, great guitar sounds: clean, chunky and downright screaming.I plug directly into the mixer board, so having the fatter tube sound is perfect. The unit is compact enough to sit on the corner of my keyboard, allowing quick adjustments with the knobs.I play out every weekend with three bands (80's stuff to current) and every band is impressed with the new addition;we're learning more "guitar driven" tunage just because of the Tonelab! And roadworthy????A couple weeks ago, I backed over my gig bag (Tonelab taking the brunt of it) with my TRUCK... besides being a little compressed on one side, it still works great!!Way to go VOX!!

Fender Starcaster? Electric Guitar/Amp Package - FlameTop Finish Review

Fender Starcaster? Electric Guitar/Amp Package - FlameTop Finish
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have this guitar pack and I have to say that the number of negative comments is amazing.I am not sure what people expect for $200.00.No! This is not a $1200.00 dollar American made strat, nor is the $500.00 Mexican made strat. It's a low cost made in China strat.

Regardless of where it was made, I found the workmanship to be very acceptable. The guitar is beautiful and the rosewood fretboard is very nice. The whole guitar has a solid feel.My only real complaint is that the center pickup has an unusually low level output. But there is no way I would return this guitar just because of a single pickup. At worst case I'd just have Fender send a replacement. And Yes! As other reviews have noted, the amp hums a little (especially at higher volumes). But, this has more to with the single coil pickups used in the guitar. If you want humbucker pickups, you're going to pay more. Also the amp is just a small 10W practice amp.It works fine for lower volume practicing.I have fallen in love with mine and play it quietly in the evenings to relax from the world.

I have a family and very little extra money.I am greatful that Fender has provided these low cost kits.It gives me the opportunity to own and relax with a Fender, something that would be questionable with a better (read more expensive) guitar. And, if the kids develop an interest, I won't cry too much if they add a few scratches to it.

Folks need to keep things in perspective. This is a low cost entry level guitar.Understanding those limitations, I highly recommend this kit to anyone just starting out.

Dean Electric Guitar Starter Pack with EVO XM Natural, 10 Watt Amp, Gig Bag, Cord, Strap, Picks Review

Dean Electric Guitar Starter Pack with EVO XM Natural, 10 Watt Amp, Gig Bag, Cord, Strap, Picks
Average Reviews:

If you look at the picture you'll see six tuners of an electric guitar.
The body of the guitar is made of BASSwood and that is probably where they got the idea that this is a bass guitar. The neck is of a slim design and is a little too narrow for my fat fingers.
The guitar is solid and sounds good, all-in-all a good set but not what is advertised!
As a guitar I'd give it a 4.5, the poor rating is that it is NOT a bass guitar!

I have been playing guitar for 49 years and own over 80 guitars. Since I already own a Dean Classical cutaway guitar, I had high expectations for this non cutaway model, and Dean delivered!!! Not a single flaw, looks great, perfect intonation, easy to play, no sharp edges on the frets, quality tuners that keep the strings in tune, and sounds great. It also has an adjustable truss rod that most classical guitars do not have. It is a great practice guitar and loud enough to use for small gigs. And it also comes with a hardshell case. I highly recommend this to beginners as well as advanced players.

Tascam GTR1 Portable Digital Recorder Review

Tascam GTR1 Portable Digital Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought mine from Streamline Audio Video via Amazon. Great price, free shipping and came quickly.

Hard to believe it's so hard to find a review for such a great product. It's very intuitive. File management is drag and drop. Hooks up to USB and charges from computer or optional power supply. Lasts a long time on a charge. Holds lots of songs. (read the specs for data) The looping and slow down features are great for practicing. Just push a button right on the front for start and stop points and another to loop. Slowing down without changing the pitch is one button push. Push it again to return to normal speed. I use it mostly for practicing drums since I don't have tabs for that. I have used it with guitar too. I think looping and slow down are the best features. The drum machine effects sound good and have a nice variety of beats but I haven't spent much time with that. Used it to record some ideas with the band live and was amazed at how good the levels were with no mixing or fiddling around. Emailed the song to the rest of the guys and they were impressed with it too - one take - live.
I have also used it to move some cassette tapes to MP3 format and it works fantastic for that too. A nice bonus. I bought the optional power supply too for around $20 - it is high quality.
I love this thing. My playing has improved quite a bit since it's arrival.
Hope this helps you as I could find very little info when I was looking.

Bristol by Blueridge BD-16 Dreadnaught Acoustic Guitar (Natural) Review

Bristol by Blueridge BD-16 Dreadnaught Acoustic Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I helped my daughter buy this guitar for her fiance and I've had a chance to play it quite a bit.I also own several other dreadnaught-style guitars, both mid-range and high-end.This instrument is well crafted and nicely finished -- it doesn't look cheap at all.The one I played came nicely set up from the factory and was quite playable right out of the box and it could be fine-tuned to play even better. The tone was comparable to other under $300 dreadnaught guitars with good balance between the strings and excellent bass string volume -- great for bluegrass. However, where this guitar really shined, and where it set itself apart from other guitars, was its sustain. Most inexpensive guitars lack sustain and therefore don't sound full and airy, but this guitar has amazing sustain for its price and was very enjoyable to play, even for someone who regularly plays high-end guitars. The overall quality, easy of play and great sound make this a wonderful guitar for someone on a budget or beginning the guitar.

Playmate by Dean Avalanche Electric Guitar Kit (Amp, Gig Bag, Black) Review

Playmate by Dean Avalanche Electric Guitar Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Dean Playmate Pack three years ago when I was first getting started with the guitar, and remember being very displeased with its quality. Things went well for about three months- then the cord shorted- just died. I bought a new cord and played for three months- and the amp blew. I didn't drop it or turn it up too loud (1/4 the volume, in fact). It just grew more and more temperamental, then died. The final thing to go was the strap, which tore after infrequent use. I still have the guitar, which works fine, but I thought I was getting more than that when I bought it.

Line 6 Micro Spider 6-Watt Battery-Powered Guitar Amplifier Review

Line 6 Micro Spider 6-Watt Battery-Powered Guitar Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this amp to add some sonic flavor to my series of battery operated amplifiers. I have 2 Roland products a Micro Cube and a Cube RX, 2 Vox amps a D5 and D10 repsectively. Ok so let us get started. The first thing I have to say is that off all of my "amps" this one is the one that has the most features. Pros:
The Line 6 has 5 amplifier modes or channels! You can configure all of the amp settings and then save them for recall later (just set it the way you like and and press the button for that sound until the button blinks). The sounds are pretty good too, useful. I liked the input that allows you to add an mp3 player or other audio source (1/8 stereo mini)The tuner is also nice, not too accurate, but will get you in the ball park. Headphone output / Recording direct out. Cons: The knobs feel pretty flimsy, they are however pretty protected for the most part. Should you move one up or down you will see the rest follow suit. For something so promising it is ashamed that they chose to make a price point over quality. If you are a person that takes care of things, you will have no problem with this product.

Washburn Steel String Travel Acoustic Guitar (Blue) Review

Washburn Steel String Travel Acoustic Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did a great deal of research into travel guitars, this one has excellent qualities and features at a reasonable price.I was originally looking at the Martin Backpacker but found that it was a bit on the expensive side and did not include the extras that the Washburn Rover came with.

Excellent fit and finish. The machines are of decent quality and work well. The full size fretboard is of good quality. The sound is very good.Anyone thinking that this will take the place of their regular acoustic should note that it is a practice/travel guitar and does not "project" sound as fully as a full sized acoustic. The case is an excellent bonus and works well with the provided backpack straps.I was delighted that it came with a strap, picks, an extra bridge w/shims, a truss rod wrench, and a DVD. The DVD is geared toward the novice but includes a neat little program that will allow you to use your computer/laptop as a tuner. When the guitar arrives I would recommend that you: open the case and let it air out for a week or two (strong lacquer smell), and take it to shop that specializes in acoustic instruments and have the action set up (intonation and string height). Also note: The full size neck tends to make the guitar top heavy, not a problem when used with a strap. Also, you may want to have the shop attach a strap peg on the back of the neck where the neck attaches to the body. All in all...a great instrument for the money.

Cheers!

Vox Valvetronix VT30 Guitar Combo Amplifier - 1x10 inch, 30 watts Review

Vox Valvetronix VT30 Guitar Combo Amplifier - 1x10 inch, 30 watts
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just picked up this little beauty a couple weeks ago from a local guitar shop. I really love the built in 22 amp settings as well as an integrated effects pedal. Saves a ton of money. The 30 watt power supply is plenty of volume for practicing or a small gig.

The only words of caution I would have are this: 1. There isn't a line-out (other than the headphone jack) so you can't use this as just a pre-amp and run it to a sound board or anything; you would have to still get an effects pedal if you needed it for that, 2. It isn't made for huge gigs, 30 watts is plenty of power at home and at church but if you're playing big gigs with a crazy drummer, you're going to want to go with something with some more oomph.

Overall I love this amp. You can't beat the price; so it is a wonderful value and a trusted brand.

Luna Muse Safari 3/4 Travel Guitar w/ Gig Bag - Natural Review

Luna Muse Safari 3/4 Travel Guitar w/ Gig Bag - Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having tried most of the 3/4 size acoustic steel-string guitars, since I was looking for a short scale instrument that travels easily but mainly offers less tension on the strings (a benefit of shorter scale), the Luna Safari Muse seems by far the best deal. Yes the Taylor Baby (that costs twice as much) IS a little better sounding with a stronger bass, and sports a little more classy-cal finish, but I think the Luna is far better than the small XL Martins, not to speak of the Martin backpacker and a few others I tried. The instrument came well set up for average taste (a bit high but safe), with decent strings. I plan to lower the action a little at both the nut and bridge, and use lighter strings yet. The neck is straight and has a truss rod. Looks nice, feels fine, the frets are A-OK, the design is original, with an interesting edging in place of binding, and the satin finish is pleasing. I looked at 3 and none was a lemon. It seems it's wood unlike the "textured HPL" they use on the Martins (composite overlaid with photo of wood), though it's not all raw timber. The top seems layered and the bridge seems like a softer wood that is stained dark, but the vibration is transferred just fine. They use clever design to give you a decent acoustic guitar at under 150 bucks, nothing else like it at that price. The greatest weakness is perhaps its low mid range resonant peak. You can most notice it if you fret the D string at the octave, meaning you will hit a bit of that boxy "ukulele" tone at times. It's what some people object to in all the small-body guitars. Something like the Backpacker is all "ukulele" midrange. The truth is that the physics are inescapable, the trick is to squeeze a decent treble and bass out of the instrument anyway, and the Luna Safari does. Also that particular peak is part of the specific personality of the instrument. They accessorize with an allen wrench for the truss rod and an unpadded canvas bag that's pretty minimal.

Dean ML XM Solid Body Electric Guitar, Mahogany Finish, Trans Black Review

Dean ML XM Solid Body Electric Guitar, Mahogany Finish, Trans Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was very disappointed with this purchase and had to return it, the guitar had cracks where the neck connects to the body and a crack under the front pickup. I loved the body style of the guitar and the price, but unfortunately it was damaged. Your experience if you've ordered the item may be different from mine, at least I would hope so, to avoid the deep disappointment I felt.

What would a Dean be without the headstock?

Paulownia Body
Paulownia is an increasingly popular substitute for mahogany in more affordable guitar models. It's a fast-growing, hearty tree native to Japan and Southeast Asia, and has traditionally been used for Asian string instruments. As a lightweight, porous body wood, Paulownia is somewhat similar to swamp ash in its sonic signature: very resonant, with plenty of chime and a nice, tight low-end.Bolt-On Construction
Bolt-on neck construction provides an affordable alternative to set-neck or thru-body designs. The advantage of this design is that if you do have any neck trouble down the line, you can easily replace it. The ML Knight features a maple neck and an ultra-playable 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, with classic dot inlays.Dean Humbucker Pickups
To capture the biting tones of vintage Deans, the company includes two of its standard humbuckers. These pickups provide more than enough bite for modern styles, along with plenty of low-end and midrange definition. The standard three-way selector allows bridge, neck, or a combination. Each pickup gets a volume pot, and they share the tone control.Grover Tuners
If you play guitar then you know what this means--solid, dependable tuning from the industry standard. These guitar machines are a triumph in engineering and style, with a gear ratio of 14:1, perfect gear meshing, and zero backlash and slippage. The gear box has a special lubricant for lifetime, trouble-free service.
Tune-o-Matic Bridge
The Tune-o-Matic bridge with string-thru body design provides serious sustain, along with precise intonation for your tuning preference. The classic v-shaped plate mirrors the headstock wings for some nice vintage Dean style.

Squier by Fender BulletStrat HSS w/Trem, Black Review

Squier by Fender BulletStrat HSS w/Trem, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Back in the 1960 through the 1970s, I was part of a band and played a number of guitars, but mostly a Fender Mustang which I loved, in large part because the scalloped cuts in the body, one at the back top (when holding the guitar) and another on thetop edge of body where the picking arm rests. These two modifications to the body of the Mustang made it fantastically comfortable to play.

When I saw these cuts on the Squier Strat, it was like a dream come true. My only reservation was the price - super low, it seemed.

But I'd heard good things about it and made the purchase. Best guitar I have ever played. Simply amazing and now all my other guitars pretty much sit unused.

It comes with the nut set up for smaller gauge strings - which is great for me as I like light strings so I can easily bend notes. The neck reinforcement bar did need some adjustment to straighten the neck a tad, which then allowed lowering the bridge section for each string. Once that was done, the action was nice and low and fast. (And for those who are a bit hesitant to tackle these adjustments, there's plenty of info on the web telling how to do this on a Strat; it isn't as daunting as it seems - in fact this was my first time to set up a guitar, having previously had this done before buying one.)

I had thought I might have trouble keeping the strings in tune with the whammy bar (I did with the Mustang which tended to have other strings go out of tune when you tuned one). Not so. It holds its tuning very well. And while I rarely use the whammy bar, it is nice to have it there for those rare occasions when I need to drop the pitch on a chord (I generally "pull" the strings to raise chords).

The humbucker ahead of the bridge is a nice touch; having the two single-pole classic pickups might enable a player to get feedback effects and such if he were into that (the Ebow perhaps makes such things pointless these days). With the five-way switch, there is a nice variety of sounds available.

The finish on the instrument is deep and perfect. The pick guard comes with a protective plastic coat - once I realized that and removed it I was pleasantly surprised how nice that looked as well. One beautiful instrument.

I played for a time professionally, and have to say this guitar is as good or better than what we were using back in the 60s and 70s. While it's priced like a beginner's guitar, Icertainly wouldn't think twice about taking it out on the stage were my skills what they were 40 years ago (alas, they are not - but perhaps this new guitar will encourage me to get back in form).

I'd give this guitar 8 stars if I could. A big fat five as it is.

And it would be a bargain at twice the price. If you're like me and have always wanted a Fender Strat but couldn't afford one, this Squier version of the classic is just the ticket. It would be a bargain at twice the price. At $119 (at the time I bought mine) it is a steal.

Try it, you'll like it.
