Fender Custom Shop Pickups Strat Texas Specials (Set Of 3) Review

If you are going to replace your old pickups,in your low end Strat, with Texas specials you need to change the pots, switch, and the capacitor.Stewart-MacDonald (stewmac.com)has the replacement parts kit.The older strats didn't have the cheap parts in them like they do today. And the cheap parts will keep your strat sounding like crap no matter what pick-up you put in them.

I have done the whole electronics makeover on my Squier and it does not matter which amp I plug into...it shreds.

Coffin Case BDFX-1 Blood Drive Overdrive Guitar Effect Pedal Review

Coffin Case BDFX-1 Blood Drive Overdrive Guitar Effect Pedal
Average Reviews:

You're thinking you're going to get the same tone of as John 5.

Because I naively (another word for ignorant or stupidly) bought it because I thought was going to get JOhn 5's guitar tone from that one youtube video I saw advertising this particular pedal.

If you're looking for a pedal that raises the volume and overall bright tone I say give it a shot and see how you like it.

If you're looking for heavy crunchy distortion...than THIS IS NOT THE PEDAL FOR THAT.

The distortion on this pedal is ridiculously bleak...and absent.

It does give you that much range on distortion either.

but it does give you an acceptable range for making those solos stand out.

So like I said... i'd give it a try and see how you like it...and maybe even write a review too...to save other people time like I just did for you.

The product was exactly as described. The key hole isn't meant to be opened with a key; the hole is actually a part of a latch that you just open up. I had problems opening it up so I thought I might share that fact.

i own this guitar. it is an awesome classical intsrument. i play classical and flamenco and this guitar does the trick. if you don't have the money to throw at a ramirez and are looking for a guitar with an awesome tone this is the one for you. it has a very rich sound to it. the ceder smells great too ;-). the gear head work great when tuneing. needs "gulpe cover" for flamenco music.

great low budget trade off for a ramirez.

Tascam DP-004 Pocketstudio Digital Recorder Review

Tascam DP-004 Pocketstudio Digital Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a songwriter who needs something that will allow me quickly to jot down song ideas and fragments, as well as completed songs, this unit is a little cumbersome. In order to create a song, you must do the following:
1. Turn on unit
2. Press "Menu" button
3. Scroll to "Song" menu item
4. Click a function button to select
5. Using the data wheel, scroll down to "Create"
6. Click a function button to select
7. Use data wheel to enter name of song one laborious letter at a time (optional step: you can forgo naming a song and it will be named "Song023" etc.)
8. Click "Home" button
9. Click "Rec" buttons for tracks 1 and 2 (assuming you want to record in stereo).
10. Click the record transport and play transport buttons together, to start the recording process (I'm assuming you have already set the input levels and want to use the built-in mics)
11. Click the stop transport button when you are done recording your song
12. Repeat steps 9-11 if you wish to overdub another voice or instrument on tracks 3 and/or 4.
13. Click "Menu" button, then "Play" to listen to playback
14. Click stop button at end of song
15. Click "In/Out" button
16. Click function key "Out" to set the out point
17. Click "Rec Mode" button
18. Using data wheel, scroll down to "Master Rec"
19. Click function key to select
20. Click the record transport and play transport buttons together, to start the recording process for the "master" track (this is simply a stereo mixdown of the four tracks)
21. Click "Rec Mode" button
22. Using data wheel, scroll up to "Multi Track"
23. Click function key to select
24. Click "Menu" button
25. Scroll using data wheel to "Wave"
26. Click function key to select
27. Scroll down to "Export Master"
28. Click function key to select
29. Use data wheel to enter name of song one letter at a time (optional step: you can forgo naming a song and it will be named "Song023" etc.)
30. Click function key to execute exporting of the master stereo tracks to the FAT partition of the SD card within the unit.
31. Attach unit to your computer via the supplied USB cable
32. Open folder to view the files on the Tascam
33. Click the "Wave" folder to find the master tracks you just created.
34. Go to a file conversion program to convert the ".wav" file to an ".mp3" file, so you can email it to your friends, etc.

Whew! Not exactly a quick, friendly, intuitive process!

What you want is a two-click process to start recording (as on my old mini-disk recorder), and then be able to connect to a computer to copy the file and convert. There are an awful lot of extra steps involved, but of course you are talking about four tracks, not just stereo, so there's just no getting around the necessity of the mix-down/mastering. What is a little odd and annoying are those extra steps to export the master to the FAT partition of the Tascam SD card (steps 27-30, above).

Also, since each song file must be loaded before you can listen to it, there is no way to play songs one after the other unattended, or zip quickly between songs like you can do on an iPod or CD player, to audition which is which (thus naming them is critical).

Anyway, a word to the wise if you want something quick and easy. You pay for the ability to make a multi-track recording. On the other hand, if you want something with great quality recording sound, ample storage (a 16 GB SDHC card gives you 1300 track minutes in the 8 GB partition you can create (the largest possible), very nice and senstive built-in stereo mics,
and something you can use to create an excellent mini-demo, then this will definitely do the trick.

TIP: Purchase a PSP-100 power adaptor. It is made for the Sony Playstation and is identical to the more costly PS-P520 Tascam says you have to buy (i.e., 5V, 2A, correct plug and polarity). I paid $5 for mine, not $30!

Johnson Bottle Slide Triolian Resonator Guitar Review

Johnson Bottle Slide Triolian Resonator Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I read decent reviews of this guitar on other sites and decided to give it a try.I ordered the JR-550-FEN version - same guitar but (allegedly) has a Fishman pickup installed.(Another online sells this same guitar branded Rogue. They are made by Axl in China.)I know my way around resonator guitars - I own a couple of National Resophonics, and a Regal tri-cone and Duolian have been playing more than 30 years.I have owned many similar guitars including a '33 National Duolian.I play mainly fingerstyle and slide and was looking for a lighter, softer sounding resonator.Sadly, I'm still looking.

Out of the box it looked okay.A little minor QC oversights but finish was decent. Most guitars come with cheap strings installed (the manufacturer assumes players will change to their favorite strings) but those on this guitar set a new low.Tarnished in the box, I never could get them to play in tune.New strings helped a little. The mahogany body has a thick, shiny finish but they wisely gave the neck a lighter satin finish.I like the old-fashioned slotted headstock and that the neck joins the body at the 12th fret like the old guitars. So far, so good...

The first and worst thing wrong was the pickup.60 cycle hum blasted from the amp the instant I cracked the volume knob above zero. The "Fishman" pickup is shorted right out of the box!It could not have been tested at the factory.I have genuine Fishman pickups on other guitars and have never had a problem so I question if it's a real Fishman pickup. But I'm not about to take a brand new guitar apart to find out!

I sent the seller a note about this and they replied that they would contact the QC department of the factory and let me know what they said.So much for standing by what you sell!Caveat emptor!!!

Tuned up to Open D (6th, 5th, and 1st strings a full step low) the action at the 5th fret was uncomfortably high and really bad at the 7th fret.Tuned to concert pitch it was unplayable at or above the 7th fret. The JR-550 uses a National-style cone and biscuit bridge but the bridge saddle is much taller than needed. If you are patient and know how it's not terribly difficult to sand it down but, because the strings pass through the cover plate, getting it right is a tedious process.

The neck is reasonably straight and the body-neck angle isn't bad so the terrible action out of the box is poor design and/or QC.Other Johnson owners tell me the best thing they did was replace the cone with one from National. The 9.5" National cone comes with a bridge that uses a thinner, stiffer biscuit which makes the action lower and the tone better.I wasn't expecting the quality of a National but the stock action was worse than expected.

The tone is okay but not as rich or as loud as you would expect from a resonator. It's also much less "woody" sounding than a Dobro but that may have more to do with the biscuit bridge instead of the spider bridge and inverted cone on wood body Dobro's.

If you want a light resonator, only play slide (i.e., never make a chord above the 3rd fret), and get a great deal this may not be a bad guitar for you.If you get one for next to nothing and are after a cool-looking "wall hanger" then go for it.But if you actually want to play the thing I strongly recommend you try one before ordering online.I have played metal body resonators (single- and tri-cone) made in the same factory and they were passable. This guitar leaves a lot to be desired.

Product Description:
This wood-body resonator guitar is perfect for backyard bottle slide playing. With its slotted headstock and natural mahogany finish, it has the classic look and feel of the vintage Triolian guitars from the 1930's, without the marked up price! The larger body shape adds much to its traditional look and exceptional sound. Built with a mahogany top, back, sides, and neck and a hard maple biscuit bridge, this triolian really sings. The 9.5 hand-spun spiral Continental cone resonator provides this triolian with incredible projection and responsive tone. The JR-550 also featuresa rosewood fretboard and a 12th fret neck joint, as well as a modified F-hole soundboard. Add to that inlaid M.O.P position markers, a nickelplated coverplate and tailpiece, and you've got a new triolian that leads in tone, features, and value.

J Reynolds Electric Bass- Transparent Red Review

I have been playing Guitar and Bass Guitar for a couple of years now and have already been through several guitars and basses (I like to collect). Of my basses, this is definitely the best I have had. Now, because my first couple weren't that great, it's not really saying much. However, this bass does give fairly decent tone with a little hiss that isn't too noticeable.

I would recommend this to anyone who is just beginning bass and needs something to get them by until they can afford a more expensive one.

I got it and was very disappointed. There is only one word to describe this and that is undersized. It is smaller than the other strumstick type instruments. It sounds fine, much less tinny - if you put your ear six inches away.Forget playing with other instruments as it will be drowned out.Its neck is much too thin on the finger board. If you are an adult, you can only play the first string, as the others are far closer than a guitar or ukulele. So forget learning to play chords, or the middle or third string, as even my little finger can't touch one string without touching at least one other. You are also supposed to attach the bridge your self, though they do give the clue that it must be at 194 mm from the last fret.On the plus side, it came with a nylon travel case and an, uh, knitting yarn sort of strap. For a child it would be a good instrument, and as a child's instrument, seems well enough made. But this is not good for adults.

Pedaltrain Pro With Soft Case Review

Pedaltrain Pro With Soft Case
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you're anything other than the very occasional musician, you'd be better off buying the version of this product with the hard case.I'm gigging 3-4 times a month and find that the soft case allows pedals to shift so much during transit that they come loose from the board. The padded flight case would hold pedals down more securely.

But there's more to the problem. First, the Velcro isn't anywhere near strong enough to hold down heavier pedals (e.g. a Digitech Whammy, even a Cry-Baby), which come loose even when picking the board up to put it in its case. I've ended up using cable ties wrapped around the crossbars to augment the Velcro.Second, the glue on the back of the supplied Velcro isn't strong enough to stay attached to many pedals.I've ended up using Gorilla glue to get the stuff to stick.

I'm not sure there is any solution to these problems, since any pedal-board would have the same issues.

Having said that, it's a good solid pedal-board, probably the best available.

Rogue LX200B Series II Bass Guitar, Candy Apple Red Review

Rogue LX200B Series II Bass Guitar, Candy Apple Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, I'm in Iraq right now and so I decided to take a hobby up so I said why not bass guitar. I didn't want to get an expensive one in case it was messed up while over here, I looked around Amazon and found that Woodwind and Brasswood would ship to APO address. Being only $119 I decided it was a reasonable risk in getting this bass guitar. I placed my order several days before Easter, and that's where the trouble started (bare with me, I'll get to the guitar).

On the Saturday before Easter I get an e-mail from the company telling me it would be a month and a half before my product shipped. Personally, I feel that's a bit of a wait and e-mailed the company that day to try and cancel the order. I get an out of office response, which I'm cool with.. it was Easter weekend after all.

Monday rolls around and I get a response from Customer service, from the above mentioned company, stating that they would try and stop my order. After 4 e-mails from the company stating that they were trying to stop the order (guess they aren't allowed to have phones at the warehouse) I get an e-mail saying that the item was allready loaded on a truck and that the warehouse refused to take it off just because I no longer wanted it. (silly me, I thought me being the consumer I was supposed to be right) What I found very odd was once I wanted to cancel the order it was no longer going to take a month and a half.

The customer service e-mails me again and says that if I still don't want it I can return it and that they would send out shipping labels to me once I recieved the item (why not send them out with the product?). The stipulation was that if the box is damaged, then they start deducting from my $119 I paid. For those that don't know, packages arriving in Iraq don't usually have the pristine condition that is required for me to get my $119 back in full, much less arriving back in the states in such a condition when mailed from here. I had to e-mail them back and let them know it was not worth the risk, that they had stuck me good this time.

******* On To The Guitar **********

So I ordered the candy apple red varient, opened the "box" and it looked nice. Thought I was getting real lucky.. until...

It was filthy, I don't just mean dusty.. it had some gloopy garbage on the screws that was a mix between dried food and candle wax. It was all over the thing to be exact, but I mention the screws because it was like they purpously put the stuff in them. The fret board looked like it had just been removed from King Tut's tomb. The body had knicks, scratches, even a ding or two.

I spent a good two hours cleaning it up, and I still don't think I got all the goop garbage out of the screwheads.

However, for all that bad it tuned nicely and quickly. I've had no major issues with it at all. It does sound nice, and unless you know where to look you can't notice the scratches and dings.

I would have to say that if I could have gotten this bass from another company then it would have been a great experience.

However take the good with the bad.... I bought a decent beginner's bass for cheaper than most beginner bass guitars.

Not a bad product if you have someone that may or may not follow through with learning the bass. Defiently want to upgrade in time though.

Rogue Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar (Natural) Review

Rogue Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

I've owned and played hundreds of guitars and I'm very particular when it comes to sound, workmanship, etc. Because of the low price a not so well-known brand, etc. I was hesitant at first, but once I got this gem I was positively surprised. The neck is fast, the natural has a shiny quality finish top, the resonance and sustain are really great and this guitar also comes with Martin strings. The overall workmanship is really nice and the controls for the preamp are easy to use and they are on top where they are supposed to be. I've been playing guitar for over 30 years and I can easily compare this in China made Rogue to a $1,500 brandname guitar, and this Rogue costs a tiny fraction of that. I don't think you can go wrong with this guitar -- you'll be positively surprised just as I was. Although it's a solid dreadnought, the weight is on the light side which I personally prefer. It's simply fun to pick up this guitar and play it. By the way, some of my friends who are professional musicians bought this Rogue as an additional practice guitar, and all of them really enjoy playing it and they're very satisfied. I think it's also the most inexpensive quality Acoustic/Electric out there.

+ The guitar is absolutely beautiful. The color in the picture provided may be off from the one you buy, though. The pickguard is actually a nice dark red, as is the back of the body and neck.
+ The tuners are great. Very solid.
+ The action is pretty good for a 12 string.
+ Sounds wonderful!
+ Well packaged. I'm always a little worried when it comes to buying stuff online. I've had bad experiences in the past, but this wasn't one of them. Absolutely no damage at all!
+ Shipment was very fast. I ordered it on Friday and received it at my front door on Tuesday.

- The bridge pins were really stuck down in there. I quickly broke a string by trying to tune it. I'm not sure if it was because of the pins, but it probably didn't help.
- A lot of the reviews you see online about this guitar say the neck is pretty wide. It is, but it's obviously going to be if you need to fit 12 strings on there. It's a little stretch for my hands, but I have the tiniest hands ever.

This was my first purchase from Epiphone. I've admired their guitars for awhile and I'm very proud to own this one. Don't think about buying this guitar. Just go ahead and buy it. For this price, you MUST. It's a lot nicer than most guitars I've seen for twice the price.

Normally when I buy a Bass this cheap, I expect to spend a lot of time setting it up but I have to say the fit and finish were flawless and the set-up was fine out of the box.The neck was perfectly tuned. After stretching and tuning the strings, I was pleasantly surprised to find the coveted Fender tone for less than $100. This is a bargain. Don't let brand/class snobs fool you, you won't have the ear to tell the difference between this and a Fender American standard Jazz Bass and this import. Excellent starter.

I have been wanting an acoustic amp for a while, so with the recent purchase of an A/E nylon string guitar I finally decided to bite the bullet.

This amp had tremendous reviews everywhere I went, and they were dead on. The price was fantastic, and the sound is awesome. It provides a lot of variety in the sound, so you can key it up however you like.

I would definitely recommend it!!
