Espana Classical Solid Top Guitar Mahogany Review

Espana Classical Solid Top Guitar Mahogany
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar, for the price, is fantastic. It has a deep, rich sound that you usually find in higher-end models. It is of solid wood construction and the fret board plays really well. It also is a very loud guitar. The voice on this thing is amazing. It plays the high-end notes perfectly and contrasts well with the bass. No buzzing and it gives a great "streaking" noise when you slide up and down the fret board on complicated pieces. I used this as a beginner guitar and I will keep it in my collection as it ages nicely. A definite buy for a beginner.
Aesthetically it is pleasing. For the beginner it is nice because it has the fret markings on the side so you can gauge where you are on the scales you are playing. Hope this helps!

UltraSound AG-30 30W Acoustic Guitar Amp Review

UltraSound AG-30 30W Acoustic Guitar Amp
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you are looking for a "spanky" acoustic sound, a little
gain, or funky character to your plugged-in tone this is
not your amp.

I've had a Crate accoustic amp too and it put a lot more of
it's own character in the sound. What you hear with the
Ultrasound is your guitar pickup. It's very faithful to
the signal... and admittedly dry.

This amp has no reverb or other feature to make your guitar
sound richer. It does have an effects loop though so you can
add whatever you need into your signal chain.

I've played some small accoustic amps I liked better. But for
clean reprodution of your guitar's sound the Ultrasound is
a great value.

I mostly use a handbuilt nylon-strung guitar with a
Pick-uptheworld soundboard pickup. It picks up body
taps and string-squeak with a lot of detail.It doesn't
have the "quack" sound of a saddle piezo pickup.I sometimes
like the snappy sound of a quacking piezo, but it's not
how a guitar really sounds, acoustically.

This is a great value in a basic, accurate accoustic amp.
I haven't had any problems with mine and I've had it for
many years. It lacks a switch to change the polarity
for the power so in some rooms it will make some hiss.
This isn't because the amp has a hissing problem, it's
because it lacks the feature to stop this from happening.
It's really a minor issue - and I'm not sure I'm using the
right terminology to describe it, but if you need your amp
to be perfectly quiet when you aren't playing, all the time,
this may not be a good choice for you.If you can accept
a little unpredictable hiss, it's a great little amp.

DigiTech RP350 Guitar Effects Processor Review

DigiTech RP350 Guitar Effects Processor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The amp simulators alone make the Digitech RP350 worth the price of admission. No piece of solid state equipment can capture all of the nuances of tube gear, but this thing comes reasonably close.

The main limitation I found is that you can run only ONE effect at a time from the Chorus/FX module (delay and reverb are in a separate module). So running chorus and flange together is impossible. Ditto with phaser and pitch shift. I would strongly recommend visiting the Digitech website and downloading the manual so that you know exactly what you are getting. The website also has clips of the presets, though actually playing one would of course be better.

My only other gripe is that the Marshall Plexi simulation could use a higher maximum gain level. You have to mate it with a distortion pedal simulation to get a decent among of distortion. I prefer my Tech 21 Sansamp GT2 for 70s hard rock sounds.

For the price, this was well worth it for me. I just hope Digitech makes future models with two FX modules instead of only one.

Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy Analog Echo Chorus Vibrato Pedal Review

Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy Analog Echo Chorus Vibrato Pedal

My son has been adding various instruments and devices to his armamentarium of sound production and distortion equipment. He loves this little box. It actually modifies the sound of whatever you put through it about twice as much as advertised for some technical reason my son explained but I don't understand. It had something to do with the specs given being the average while one actually has a lot more room for experimentation.Anyway, he immediately starting something that sounded a bit Pink Floydish using this box with his electric guitar.Several days later he was playing something quite interesting and creative using this box, only he was playing his I-phone or something! Well, the point is that this is a lot of potential creative sound production for the price. Soooooo, if your considering this, I can tell you to just buy it, if you can find it, as it appears it is being discontinued, which has something to do with the great price. Simply a lot of fun and potential for the price from a company that makes good quality equipment. This is a great deal.

One of my favorite purchases.Found this girl on the wall at a pawn shop in Tomball Texas. I bought it because i was tired of taking some of my more expensive guitars on the road in the back of my van with all the other electronic equipment tubling around.I liked this K2TRD because for an expensive guitar it has great sound and a boat load of resonance. My next trick was to pull the string off and replace them with D Adarrio 10's so i could play this guitar like an electric and be able to bend strings........works great and everyone who plays it loves it...hrt

Washburn OG2CE Oscar Schmidt Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

Washburn OG2CE Oscar Schmidt Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, how did I spend $200 on an electric acoustic, and get such an awesome deal?!! I've always been happy with Washburn, but this is ridiculous. I feel like I still owe them money! I compared this to a friend's $650Ibanez and the action and tone is exactly the same if not a bit better! WOW! The action isn't as comfortable as a Cort I tried at the same price, but the electronics are better and it rings out with tone-to-the-bone much better than the Cort. What's amazing is, I spent just about $40.00 less on a Fender Starcaster which was not electric and was of hideous quality of ridiculous proportions. Acoustically this guitar is a dream, and event though the action isn't "perfect", my hands don't hurt and I can kill every note. The real fun begins when I connect it to any of my amps, add some effects and am in total heaven. Don't pass up this deal. This is quality and fun, through-and-through!

DigiTech DL-8 HardWire Delay/Looper Extreme-Performance Pedal Review

DigiTech DL-8 HardWire Delay/Looper Extreme-Performance Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Recently upgraded to a tube amp that unfortunately has no effects.Since pedals are so expensive I decided to go with the DL 8 to start with. Not only is there a number of delay functions, there is a modulated delay that gives a nice chorus type of effect. There's also a slapback delay that gives a reverb type of effect and lastly there's a 20 second looper.Don't get me wrong, this isn't going to completely replace a chorus, reverb or looper but it's a great starter pedal that lets you create a variety of sounds until you can fill out your pedals. The looper is very basic. You can't save loops and once you start a loop you can't stop it and then start it again so this may not be the answer if you want to be a one man band. You can loop up to 20 seconds and then overdub over it which is a lot of fun.

The other main reason I chose the DL8 is that other reviewers stated there was no loss of tone using the pedal.I finally upgraded to a tube amp and dont want my pedals robbing the tone.I would agree that the signal stays pretty solid using this pedal and I didn't notice any loss of tone during use.One downer is thing eats batteries really quick. The first 9v lasted only a 2-3 hours of time.I'm going to invest in the power supply or some sort of powered pedal board. The pedal itself is heavy as a brick and seems built solid.I think it will last a long time but time will tell.Overall, a solid buy and I'm very happy

Line 6 POD Studio UX1 Review

Line 6 POD Studio UX1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overall it is pretty impressive for a low budget studio. Here's some pros and cons:

Pros
- comes with PodFarm software (big variety of effects and amp models)
- comes with RiffWorks (drum machine and recorder)
- comes with some other software too ;)
- lets you get idea of how a wide variety of effects sounds

Cons
- can be a little tricky to set up and register
- tech support is a little weak (they incorrectly say it replaces your soundcard)
- the quality of the effects is about an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 (clean sounds are great, but distortions and delays sound cheap)

Notes:it may replace your sound card, but only if you set it up that way.I think it's bad for the tech support people to use that phrase, because it does NOT have to replace it.For example, on my BGears Enspirer (the setup was a bit tricky) but you actually can hear sound from computer speakers and the signal out at the same time.In fact, thats how you use RiffWorks!I just think their tech support forum is geared towards the most common hardware, but it's wrong to claim "the UX1 replaces your sound card".
Also, about the effects, any of the clean effects sound pretty good. But with any heavy distortion it gets muddy and just doesn't sound quite like a Marshall. ;)And with the digital delay effects, they are pretty cheap really, eventhough they look fancy. It's easy to muddy them up when you mix much in.Even on a high end PC, I give the clean effects a 9 out of 10.The distortion is about a 7/10, and delay is about 6/10.Overall it's pretty fun though (esp for the price!), but it just not sound the same as high end stuff. ;)

EMG 81 Humbucking Active Guitar Pickup, Black Review

EMG 81 Humbucking Active Guitar Pickup, Black
Average Reviews:

The EMG 81. That says it all. If you are looking to get the absolute most out of your guitar you must put an EMG 81 in the bridge position. There is no better pickup for high gain and lead playing. It is articulate and crisp while being incredibly loud. I prefer installing mine with a volume control and that it is. That is the best way to get the most out of the beast. There are other options on the market such as the Seymour Duncan Blackouts. Doesn't it say a lot about this pickup that a company as large and successful as Seymour Duncan has had to copy the EMG active line to be able to compete? Don't go with the follower. Get real EMG pickups. You will not regret it. Five stars.

Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder Review

Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A year ago, I wrote a lengthy comparison of the Edirol R-09 WAVE/MP3 Recorder, Black and the Zoom H4 Handy Recorder + 2GB Accessory Kit (pre-accessory kit).I wanted a high quality, easy to use recorder, so even though the H4 had all of the features of the Edirol and sold for considerably less, I kept the Edirol because it was so much easier to use.

Zoom has responded with the H2, a scaled down version of the H4 with all of the features of the R-09 and all of the controls right where you need them. The H2 even has additional features over the R-09, but they don't get in the way.For example, there's a choice of a 90 degree recording pattern, a 120 degree recording pattern, and even a surround sound option. Samsontech has some nice video demonstrations on its website.

One big complaint I've had with the Edirol is the cost of its add-on stand.Unlike the Edirol, the H2 comes with a simple stand. In addition, the H2 has a threaded hole so that it can be mounted on a standard digital camera tripod! On a separate note, it's much easier to replace batteries with the H2 than the Edirol.

Recently, I got together with friends and recorded the same live acoustic music on both the Edirol R-09 and the Zoom H2.I used Adobe Audition only to normalize both tracks (that is, equalize their loudness). The first time we played them back, I thought I detected a VERY slight preference for the Edirol, with the overall opinion of the group split between the two units. The second time we played them back, my preference was for the H2, with overall opinion continuing to be split. We all agreed that the differences were so small as to be negligible if there were any at all.The sound files can be found at [...] for those who'd like to hear for themselves. We were sitting in a circle with the recorders located next to each other on a mantle above and outside the group.

I do prefer the Edirol's control buttons to the H2's membrane and I'm not about to sell the Edirol, perhaps because I am more familiar with the Edirol and don't want to give it up just yet. Also, the Edirol R-09 is the darling of the moment. However, if I owned neither, I couldn't justify the huge bump in price of the Edirol over the H2 and would opt for the H2. When I went to a music party last weekend and knew I'd need only one recorder, I grabbed the H2.

Fender FA-125S Acoustic Pack, Natural Review

Fender FA-125S Acoustic Pack, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar is full size but the body is smaller than the average guitar, making it very comfortable for my 11 year old daughter as well as for the adults that have played it.

Not knowing much about guitars, I consulted two guitar experts, and both felt this guitar is a very good instrument, both as a starter guitar and for an advanced player. Both felt it is an excellent deal because the package includes all the basics.

The front is made from one real wood piece, giving it a slightly richer sound than the laminate or other cheaper faces. This guitar has a nice feel to it, and much easier to play than the cheaper guitars you would buy at Target or Toys R Us.It is easier because the strings are closer to the wood, and it is easy to sand the bridge if you wanted them even closer. Also, the cheaper guitars do not stay tuned for five minutes of play. This Fender will stay tuned like any high quality guitar. Of course, you will probably need to tune it at the start of each practice like all guitars.

Accessories that come in the package:
The "instruction booklet" is the same book I had carefully picked out to use for my daughter's lessons, except the name says "The Fender Guitar Method" instead of "The Leonard Guitar Method." It was $13 at the guitar store, and a very good starter book. Though it is only 48 pages long, it shows how to read music as you learn to play the guitar. You learn just a couple of notes at a time, so it is easy: An F is your first finger, on the first string, on the first fret and at the same time you learn that in music, the F is the note on the top line of music.

The digital turner is amazing. It tells you whether the note is sharp (string too tight) or flat (string too loose)or perfect--all with red or blue lights. Someone as tone deaf as I can tune the guitar.

I expected the guitar strap to be a thin, cheap one, but it is well made, wide, and comfortable. It is basic, but works fine. I think it is canvas, and it is adjustable.

The soft guitar case is decent and even has a zipper pocket to store the tuner, extra picks and extra strings, etc.

This is a Steel String guitar. Guitars cannot play both steel or nylon strings, the neck of nylon guitars are not strong enough to support steel strings, and the neck of steel string guitars are too narrow for nylon strings. You need to first decide which stings you want to play. Most young people seem to like steel strings, because it has a slightly sharper sound, where as classical or spanish guitars are usually nylon strings. Some say nylon strings are a little easier on the fingers, others said you get used to whichever one you chose anyway so dont decide based on that.

We chose this steel string guitar for two reasons: Steel string necks are narrower, making it much easier for my 11 year old daughter to hold than the nylon string guitars she tried. She almost picked a nylon yahmaha (the solid wood faced one is a good choice) but the neck just didn't fit in her hand well enough. She had to really stretch her fingers to reach all the strings. The second reason we chose this steel string guitar, is that the sound it makes is very smooth, more smooth than some other steel string guitars we've heard. It almost has that soft spanish guitar tone.

We studied about ten guitars before chosing this one. We were leaning towards the Yamaha, not the cheapest or even the next step up, but about the third level up from the cheapest Yamaha (because it is made of better wood, and has some other subtle but important reasons why it is worth the extra $40.) But the shape, the compact size, and the sound of this Fender made us finally choose it. And we were not disappointed. It has been played every day since we bought it and it is hard to make it sound bad. It has such a lovely sound.

Austin Bazaar Zebra Stripes Electric Bass Pack with 15 Watt Amp Review

My daughter asked for an electric bass for Christmas. I asked around and my sons friend recommended Austin Bazaar he said they have some solid and cheap starter packs with amp so I wouldn't have to buy all the extras and you can find out if she is going to like playing first. Needless to say she loves it and it has a great sound too. A friend of hers who has been playing for awhile tuned it for her and didn't want to give it back he said the sound was good and it was solid I recommend this to any parent with a child who wants to try but is not sure they are going to keep playing. The amp is great she plugs in the headset and I don't hear her playing over the tv or my radio

This Electric Bass combo is the ideal kit for the beginning musician. This full size Electric Bass has 20 frets and a great looking basswood body. It features split P-B P/U pickups, and the combo includes a gig bag, carrying strap and a 15 watt Bass Amp. It includes everything you need to get started. The 15 Watt amp is portable because of its small size, so you can take it to practice. But don't get fooled by its small size, it is big performance in a small package. This beginner's combo also makes a great gift!

I couldn't seem to find out how to tighten the "string", which I later used to plug into the wall.Sounding board is a little muffled, but does have halogen bulbs. In sum, not a good fit for a child's guitar, but does serve well as a work light.

Yamaha F335 Acoustic Guitar, Natural Review

I was looking for an inexpensive travel-type guitar that I could leave at my daughter's house and use when I visit, as opposed to shipping my Martin M-36 and risking damage (not to mention paying for shipping back and forth). So, I didn't want to spend much, but was unwilling to settle for a pure piece of junk, either. I tried some of the various designated travel guitars, and thought the Baby Taylor was just plain bad sounding. I liked the Martin Backpacker, but there I was in the $200 range and I just didn't want to drop the coin. I looked at some cheap off-brand guitars and they sounded tinny and, well, cheap. Then I spotted this Yamaha on sale and was impressed. I mean, at this price point there is not much competition. I've definitely stroked some more expensive guitars that did not feel as nice. It seems well made, looks nice, sounds clean and has easy action. Nothing bad here. Of course, it does not sound like my Martin, no way Jose! Nor does it feel like my Martin, so don't have any illusions there, either. But it does what it does very cleanly and without presenting any problems, so how can you possibly go wrong? If it gets dinged or scratched, no biggie. My daughter liked it so well I gave it to her and it will serve her very nicely as a guitar to learn on. I think I might put on some Martin SP4100 strings and I expect that this will improve the sound, which even with the stock strings is not bad. Go for it!
