(More customer reviews)Normally when I buy a Bass this cheap, I expect to spend a lot of time setting it up but I have to say the fit and finish were flawless and the set-up was fine out of the box.The neck was perfectly tuned. After stretching and tuning the strings, I was pleasantly surprised to find the coveted Fender tone for less than $100. This is a bargain. Don't let brand/class snobs fool you, you won't have the ear to tell the difference between this and a Fender American standard Jazz Bass and this import. Excellent starter.

A great choice for beginning bass players, the 4-string Fender Starcaster J Bass guitar is based on the classic 1960s Jazz Bass, which has been instrumental in developing the signature sounds of such musical genres as funk, disco and jazz fusion as well as metal. The bass has two single-coil J Bass pickups for a stronger treble sound, and a top-load bridge to get that low-end, ground-shaking tone. Other features include a narrow, fast-action maple neck, rosewood fingerboard with dotted inlay, two volume controls, and a master tone control.
