I purchased a Saga P-bass kit from another vendor, with the aim of having an early summer project. The problem was that I had some spare time one weekend and really wanted to get the box out of the way. Oops, so much for a summer project. Staining, lacquering, and assembling the bass generally was pretty easy. Building one of these kits does provide some insight into how electric guitars and basses go together, and force you really to think about alignments, string set up, and so on. The finished bass plays well in tune, after some adjustments to the bridge tuners. I had a couple of friends who really know electric basses play it and they agreed that it does have a Precision sound to it. The pickups are plenty strong and the tuners hold their tune very well. All in all, it's great to have a pretty decent bass for under $150, and knowing that I'm the one who put it together makes it much more satisfying than buying a Squire or a non-Fender copy. Also, I feel like I have more room to tinker with it. So, the summer project looks like it's going to be a Saga TC-10 kit.
